bong tan already exposed that.. thus the reason why tan group of companies doesn't want to return to PBA due to PBA being a SMC League..

but afaik, never heard that a commissioner nixed the trade.. just revised lang.

There's a risk involved in the early announcement of such a trade deal, assuming it will be consummated. Under normal circumstances, trading a pick normally happens during draft day, when one cannot pre-empt the action of another. But with this development, a couple of factors are involved:

      1. This announcement has created a lot of buzz on social media and various basketball forums. Much of the decision of the Commissioner will obviously be affected by the fans' response. What could be an acceptable trade deal may change overnight if the fans' reactions would be negative.

      2. The bigger consequence: a trade deal is consummated between SMB and KIA - and SMB gives up on guys like Rosser, Tubid, McCarthy and YDO for that first pick. If this is approved on Thursday (after the Board meeting), what if CS and Kiefer decide to pull out of the draft pool on Friday? That means SMB will end up with the shorter end of the stick - giving up on 4 reserves for a Jeron Teng.
Pull out is the best, smc has been screwing everyone the last few years. Time to get their comeuppance.

      • My question is,what leverage does MVP have over CS? It's not like he signed a contract with SBP. Or are we talking about "inducements"? At least with Kiefer MVP can claim utang na loob and the like. But what can MVP offer to convince CS to pull out of the draft?

IMHO, I don't care much. Whether SMB gets CS or Kiefer or Teng doesn't really matter as long as when their name is called for NT duties the ball club will allow them to play.

Yeah, a pullout by any of the top prospects will create suspicion that they are serving some master.

Spoke with Ramoncito Fernandez's brother, who's a very good friend of mine. Ramoncito is the NLEX Governor and is also the President of Maynilad Philippines. There's no word if they actually have leverage on CS. The closest to CS is Chot among the officials.

Someone fro MVP group should be fired for this screw up. If MVP shells out millions of dollars for Blatche, why not at the onset sign.CS to a whole yearb ackage, sort of a maintenance / retainers fee as a Gilas naturalized player.

                  • Obviously don't like the current situation , SMB hording talent and their availability to Gilas being limited or none,
But here are somethings we take for granted that is a blessing for Philippine hoops

SMB group is funding a lot of prefessional players and as a result is attrating them to play in the Philippines, very few countries can compare with the amount of funding put into basketball, with the crowds the Philippines ( PBA ) draws in Philippine arena this is the envy of many countries , there is so much cash in the Philippines for hoops.

For the SBP and national federation, the heavily subsidised players is a luxuary, provided it can tap just a few key players (Maybe just 2 of the 4 bigs ( Jap , Greg, CS and Junmar) for every national team representation. I know it isn't an ideal situation , but at least there is the possiblity if you can tap 2 of the players , but i guess that's the big "if"

                      - Asian Carmakers (importer and service provider of BMW in the country) and Columbian Autocar Corporation (assembler and distributor of Kia vehicles in the Philippines) is both under alvarez group of company owned by palawan governor jose alvarez.

                      - SMC buys 65% stake at the asian carmakers (which is now SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation) and is now with partnership with alvarez who is also the chairman of columbian autocar corporation.

No wonder this lopsided trade would really happen, after all best buddies helps each other lol. It's hard to say no to your boss.
yes, that's true. The 65% stake was acquired the same time SMC acquired Inquirer paper.

Without SMC there will likely be no PBA. Thats a lost. But I wouldnt say we will be less competitive internationally. Without the PBA, Fajardo would be playing in the ABL at least. Playing every game against imports. I know that would be better than playing 40 minutes against shorter players in Leos babaran system.

No problem with CS playing for SMC teams, that is if he is really dedicated to the national team....he can always indicate in his contract " THE RIGHT TO PLAY FOR RP NATIONAL TEAM " .... see: L.A Tenorio

                            • Bad news if CS gets disqualified from draft since that would mean Kiefer gets picked by SMB.

Worse if Kiefer gets picked since Kiefer will be a Gilas regular for the next decade while CS will be a back-up naturalized type player barring a change in Gagop rule.

                              • Lol what if this was SMC's plan all along? Kiefer is definitely an upgrade over Cabagnot. CS has a live contract with Eastern and will not be available until March assuming he's drafted and Eastern reaches the ABL Finals
