  • Jeric Fortuna reunites with college coach Pido Jarencio as Globalport, Phoenix consummate trade

    From: Karlo Sacamos
    March 1, 2016, 02:13 pm
GLOBALPORT has acquired Jeric Fortuna from Phoenix for a future second-round pick.

Batang Pier manager Bonnie Tan confirmed the development to Spin.ph on Tuesday as they unloaded their 2018 second-round selection to get the third-year playmaker.

Fortuna, who reunites with college coach and GlobalPort mentor Pido Jarencio, boosts a Batang Pier side that’s lacking a pure point guard with combo guards Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle running the backcourt.

"Terrence can now focus on the 2-spot," Tan said.

Pringle however, suffered a sprained ankle last Friday and is out for at least two weeks in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

The Fuel Masters had the luxury to give up Fortuna with plenty of playmakers in the fold led by RR Garcia and Josh Urbiztondo.

And to Sumang, too. With a lot of guards in GBP, he's not going to get any more burn anytime soon.

and they should change their owner from romero to romeo, point being unless romeo learns that basketball is a team game, global will never be a contender. Getting fortuna wont cut it either, i read on the papers that they plan to slide pringle to the 2 spot, which according to them is his natural position. I dont agree with that because pringle doesnt have a score first mentality. Pringles talent is maximized when he is facilitating with occasional point production. While Yeos role is to fill in the gap once romeo is subbed. Pido has done a poor job in implementing a more balanced offensive system. Bottom line is romeo has to learn how to tone down his game for his team.

                  • PBA accepts marketing head's resignation, then rehires her for 'humanitarian reasons, exemplary performance'

                    From: "Spin.ph staff"
                    March 7, 2016, 10:20 pm

THE PBA board announced on Monday it has rehired the head of its marketing department who resigned weeks ago amid allegations that she submitted spurious credentials when she applied for the position.

In a statement posted on its official social media accounts, the pro league said the board approved in a special meeting the hiring of Rhose Montreal as marketing director, citing "humanitarian reasons and exemplary performance."

The move came just weeks after the league itself released a statement saying the board had discussed posts on social media questioning Montreal's alleged entry in her application claiming graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines.

UP, through Registrar Marilyn R, Canta, Ph. D., has since denied the claim.

“Based on our records, Mr. Garcia (Montreal’s maiden surname) was enrolled during the First Semester 1992-1993 until the Second Semester 1995-1996 at the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, working towards the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. She did not graduate,” the UP statement said.

After deliberations, the board, in a statement, said it had asked Montreal to air her side. Instead, the PBA said "Montreal appeared before the board and explained her side, after which she tendered her resignation."

"After further deliberation, the PBA board accepted Montreal's resignation effecting immediately," the PBA statement said.

But in a sudden turn of events, the PBA has released an official memo on Monday saying Montreal, in a letter addressed to the board of governors, through the Office of the Commissioner, re-applied for the position as marketing director of the league.

"In a special meeting, the board in lengthy deliberations approved the hiring of Ms. Montreal primarily, among others, for humanitarian reasons and because of her exemplary performance,” said the PBA in the statement.

Im guessing "humanitarian reasons" means I don't want ref aquino to sing

                          • yung isa, walang kinalaman sa basketball and basketball operations, NATANGGAL AS commissioner.. tapos itong may kinalaman sa employment sa isang basketball org., ire-rehire for HUMANITARIAN REASONS!
rehiring per se, is not bad. but hiring someone for anything other than merit reeks of EWAN!!!

TRANS: one was removed as commissioner without professional basis, while the other PBA marketing official was removed due to qualification basis. However, the disqualified one was rehired because of some humanitarian reasons, what the??!!
