Salary cap wasn't the question before (circa the 90s) simply because players don't demand too much about salaries. Nor was the rise of player agents that time. If we do impose a salary cap, why can't we make these utterly transparent? Heck, if such salary caps do exist, lopsided trades wouldn't happen, right? Then again, how do salary caps matter if the penalty imposed would be luxury taxes these teams can afford. So yeah, argument in circles aside, it's a total whitewash. Oh well~

    YES i agree!...
    but it is already happening...
and we are in the position to demand because we are with the SMC umbrella.
    so lets grab the opportunity!...

if possible nga e lets get GaryD as well!...
    hahahahaha!... (too greedy!)

who were they traded for? taulava and cardona? if so, isn't that deal so much better than the scrubs marcio will be swapped for?
besides, it is entirely different coz meralco absorbed the team...petron meanwhile does not intend to retain the franchise afaik.

            Ah, the lateral move excuse.

Vargas is a businessman, he's whining because Petron is getting the advantage. Would he call himself out if it's Meralco/TNT getting Lassiter? Thought so.

as far as i know the trade pushed through even before the sale of Sta. Lucia franchise to Meralco. it was when before the board approved the sale.

the issue now is that it was mentioned on a news article that SMB didn't inform the board of the said buying of franchise and the report sez that it was a done deal already. it means that coke has sold the franchise to smb even before the board convened about it if its approved or not.

the main issue right now is clarity whether or not it is true. on saturday perhaps we would know.

and if indeed smc owns the coke franchise, which means they are sister teams already, they are not allowed to trade with each other.

also by the way. theres a rule in the PBA where a corporation cannot own more than three franchise, is it?

i can see SMB will sell the franchise.

i cannot confirm that though. there was a tug of war between SMC and MVP(Meralco) teams about Air21's 2012 First Round Draft Pick.

first it was petron who initiated a trade involving rabeh to Air21 in exchange for 2012 First Round Draft pick.

then came meralco who traded omolon, isip and the other guy i can't seem to recall in exchange for Denis Daa plust two guys i think and the 2012 Draft Pick.

meralco trade was approved however. and i haven't read anything about petrons trade either if it was approved or not.

however i know although i'm not certain, Air21 had more than one first round picks for the next draft.

                    lol.im confused already.sorry.

Asi was already with Coke back then. Macmac was still with TnT. They were traded for Ali Pee and Nic Belasco. Sta. Lucia folded a conference after that, MVP bought it, and formed Meralco

let us be reminded that this happened during Barrios' time. Lopsided trades were rampant. Salud does edit some of the trades but it's still lopsided. So, both sucked bigtime

                          • Powerade franchise offered for sale to SMC last November
Reynaldo Belen and Jaemark Tordecilla, InterAKTV · Thursday, February 9, 2012 · 4:12 pm

The Powerade Tigers PBA franchise was offered for sale to San Miguel Corporation last November.

A confidential document obtained by InterAKTV shows that Cosmos Bottling Corporation and Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, which owns the Tigers, offered the team for sale to SMC for P100 million.

The letter was dated November 11, 2011, addressed to SMC president Ramon S. Ang, and signed by Cosmos and CCBPI chairman William Schultz.

The offer for sale came before the Tigers’ Cinderella run in the Philippine Cup. Perennially minnows in the tournament, Powerade crashed the finals of the all-Filipino conference, becoming the talk of PBA fans along the way.

Last week, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that SMC had bought the Powerade franchise, a story that CCBPI has denied. On Tuesday, the PBA received a trade proposal from Powerade and Petron Blaze, SMC’s flagship franchise, for a trade that would send Marcio Lassiter, one of the Tigers’ best players, to the Boosters in exchange for Noy Baclao and Rey Guevarra.

The deal has received howls of protest from officials of other PBA teams, amid reports of Powerade’s sale to SMC.

The PBA does not allow teams owned by the same company to trade players directly.

The league’s Board of Governors has called a special meeting on Friday to discuss issues surrounding the sale and the Lassiter transaction.
