  • do you guys think that if Yeo was included in the trade package it wouldn't be that lopsided?

hmm...even on a cash angle it doesn't make sense. baclao and guevarra are the #1 and #3 picks last year...they already are at the 2nd year of their deals with which their salaries have certainly increased from thei rookie year. lassiter is the #4 pick of this years draft, is he even making the max rookie salary? i dunno...but salary of 2 sophomore top 3 pick players over the salary of 1 4th pick rookie still doesn't stack up. if there is an under the table, spot cash deal involved then that should be revealed and the trade should be reported as lassiter for baclao, guevarra and cash considerations.

        • i realized that previous draft where baclao and rabah were selected was an awful draft. were there any good players from that draft that really stood out even now? can't recall.

Of course smc wants to improve their team (albeit hoarding talent and being greedy at times) while powerade wants to "address their frontcourt issues" with baclao...still it's the comish's duty to look after the league, not destroy it.
i believe he's doing better than barrios in terms of regulating trades. among others, his decision made smc released seigle and hontiveros (plus other players).

and going back to that trade, smb got 3 rookies with a lot of upside but as i turned out are good as benchwarmers (so far). i mean they won a title without substantial contribution from the 2 and with the other 1 out becos of injury. and they returned to the finals sans those 3's contributions. and now, we hear that they are trying to trade all 3. pretty much an admission that they made a wrong move on that trade (at least in the short-term).

                    • let's snatch JV instead.
we need a steady PG in replacement to ageing JJ & Cortez. Labagala is not yet there and probably will not make it there!
                      also let's bring back CRISANO

Agree. I even thought that James Martinez was better than Rob Labagala!

Anyways, I really am unhappy with Ricky Vargas. Noone questioned TnT's acquisition of the two best SLR players in Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes before, right? Same fire sale, different powers involved. Both distasteful. Having a lot of teams sure sucks the competition dry.

I'm a SMB fan but I really don't like these kinds of trade. I want a balance league with diverse owners. But Vargas has no right to complain being from Team MVP. They got Kelly, Reyes when SLR was a contender during that time. They also got Japeth, and has been trading back and forth with Air21 since way back. I'm actually waiting for Alaska and ROS to voice out their opinion, I was not expecting Vargas to complain

                          • In 2009, Sta. Lucia traded star players Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes to Talk ‘N Text a few months before the franchise was sold to Meralco.

                            Vargas is a hypocrite!!!!

                              • Lacked my position there. What I ought to add is that Having a lot of teams OWNED BY A SINGLE COMPANY/ENTITY sure sucks the competition dry. The league's competitiveness may only be feasible if there's a limitation to such corporations having multiple teams. Salary cap wasn't the question before (circa the 90s) simply because players don't demand too much about salaries. Nor was the rise of player agents that time. If we do impose a salary cap, why can't we make these utterly transparent? Heck, if such salary caps do exist, lopsided trades wouldn't happen, right? Then again, how do salary caps matter if the penalty imposed would be luxury taxes these teams can afford. So yeah, argument in circles aside, it's a total whitewash. Oh well~
