  • Someone will turn 27 by the 2016 draft, right ?

Think about it if the World cup qualifying process has 6 window periods from 2017 , through out 2018 and then 2019. you kind of need a pool of players who can fil that one naturalisation spot . Not just one player- you can't rely on Blatche alone to play in all the 6 window periods. Between Clarkson, Blatche, a german all star big or even Tuatuaa , that's a lot to choose from

Can the German big play center? I think he's more of a cornerman (SF-PF). The naturalized spot must be reserved for a center IMO - more specifically a rim protector and post guy.

will congress naturalize someone because he doesnt fit a need? like you i'd rather have a rim protector but i would want congress to think of how to make lives better in our country then thinking how to make our national basketball team more competitive.

I agree. It is SBP's job to make that determination, not Congress'. But our dear representathieves can be meddlesome and nitpicky if there is media mileage to be won. Who knows if some congressman who doesn't know how to do his job raises that issue?

More than the franchises, it was the general makeup of the league. Purefoods and Shell were sister teams, so did Ginebra and San Miguel but no fan ever doubted the integrity of their play. Teams dealt with each other for trades even if they disliked each other (Ginebra and Alaska swapping Ampalayo and Jose). Swift and Purefoods were corporate rivals and they proved that, trying to one-up each other (Swift's offer sheet to Nelson Asaytono that led to his transfer to the RFM franchise without compensating Purefoods), but also worked with each other when they swapped imports (Grandison for Thompkins).

The missing piece really is the independence of the Commissioner. Up to 1998, the Commissioner's office was held in high esteem by all team owners themselves and wasn't regarded as a puppet for any particular team. Things changed though when Bernardino erred in the Sonny Alvarado case where his papers were approved by his secretary, Linda Vergara. Then, the Fil-Sham mess got blown out, hurting the league severely. It got out of hand that the power of the Commissioner's office was severely clipped and the Board of Governors wielded their influence, even in basketball operations.

And now, we have two conglomerates with 3 teams each, plus 2 alleged farm teams for one and 1 alleged farm team for another. Only 3 teams are perceived independent at this time, so you can just imagine how powerful either or both of the conglomerates are when it comes to influence-peddling.

i think you mis read my reply. i wasnt talking about cs. my subject is naturalizing a rim protector since the players you mentioned, as per the flow of conversation, are not rim protectors.

Yes they do. I'm not sure with the figures though, but I believe the floor is P30k for each player. Not privy with the minimum for each team.

                            • well can't really blame the Commisioner at the fil-sham era cause some of the best amateurs and some quality players was transferring from the PBA to the MBA at that time. The commisioner have to make a deal with the devil to save his league. haha. that's why the PBA now is a product of evil and they badly need some serious cleansing ASAP. haha. if only the PBA and MBA guys set their ego aside for Philippine basketball then we could have had a great home and away Pro league right now. tsktsk
