if that's the case then farewell to noli eala.. true there is still a lot of problems to solve within SMCorp camp.. because even if Noli is gone, if RSA wants this then so be it..

and this is what happens when you have a lot of teams in the PBA.. 3 is a crowd.. 2 can be handled (MVP is handling it very well).. but 3 is a crowd especially if you have too many people wanting certain interests..

        • Narvasa sees 'positive' change' in way SMC teams are being run after Eala's exit

BASKETBALL Coaches Association of the Philippines head Chito Narvasa expressed hope that Noli Eala's exit as consultant for basketball operations at San Miguel Corp. will lead to a positive change in the way the giant company's three teams in the PBA are being run.

Narvasa, a former coach of Purefoods and Shell in the pro league, said the personnel change can also lead to a change in the management style where major decisions will be made with closer coordination between the coaching staff and officials.

The three teams may now even enjoy greater autonomy, he added.

“If every team is left to chart its own course, I’m sure things are gonna change and I believe it’s for the positive,” said Narvasa, a day after SMC announced that Eala has been assigned a new role in the conglomerate's infrastructure businesses.

Eala, a former PBA commissioner, joined the San Miguel organization in 2011 after a stint as executive director of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and played an increasing role in the running of the company's three teams.

The company won two PBA championships with Petron and San Mig Coffee and one ABL title during Eala's stint with the organization, which also saw drastic changes in the make-up of the three teams' lineups and constant revamps of their coaching staff.

With Eala no longer involved in the running of the three teams, Narvasa expects to see a change in the management of the three teams where coaches and mid-level officials will have more say when it comes to movements and other major decisions.

“With this development, I think they (SMC management) are looking for that. Any change na ganito is in the direction of trying to get better,” he said.

“I think what they should do is meron naman silang management. They should get the feedback of this people more kasi they are more involved in the everyday business of the team,” Narvasa said.

Insiders revealed that the sports director position Eala held for two years will most likely be dissolved, leaving majority of the control of the teams to head of basketball operations and current league chairman Robert Non.

by the way DT, with the departure of ayala controlling the rosters of SMC teams, do you think that the player-hoarding of those teams will stop? and who do you think will be in charge of the player movements of those 3 teams? Robert Non again?

Hoarding wasn't invented by Eala, it's innate at SMC (Asaytono, Ildefonso, etc from what i remember). The AYALAS though are still hoarding the real estate...
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

                SMALLBALL, bitches..

DT is right, it has been within the SMC camp to get the best of the best of the best.. HOWEVER, Noli Eala is one damn GOOD CLOSER.. that is why he hasn't been let go by SMC (and of course i feel in the future eventually he will be back in basketball operations).. this is just to control the situation.

trades then are not lopsided. If I remember it correctly, It was Ato Agustin for Asaytono and #2 pick castillo + someone for #1 pick Ildefonso.

Im a SMB fan since I was a kid but pretty much lost interest in the Arwind and Jwash era. I prefer the hustle guys Ping, Pena, Pennisi over those 2. Now I'm starting to watch a little bit because of Junmar. Its just weird tho watching petron and then there's another team called San Mig.

they should just assign different GM's for petron and BGSM...and have them work independently.

Which is why I've always thought that Eala was a SOB - but he's SMC's SOB which makes him a valuable commodity in the conglomerate. What did him in was the fans' outrage as Eala and other management officials kept tinkering with the coaching and player rosters of the teams. The argument is that Eala and his cohorts did these without the knowledge of the coaches concerned - making it difficult for the latter to run the team.

But if one looks at it, Eala did his part. The teams needed quality players - Eala got these for them. The problem was chemistry - or the lack of it. Another problem was the lack of coordination (allegedly) with the coaches. More importantly, Eala shielded RSA from brickbats that fans may throw his way. Imagine if there was no Eala - RSA would have gotten the goat especially since the SMC culture is that the final decision would come from the Big Boss. Had Eala only coordinated well with the coaches, he would have gotten players not exactly as talented as what they have now - but more importantly, quality players that can fit into their respective systems.

Overall, Eala isn't a people person - he's not going to be very popular no matter where he goes. But he's an implementor - someone you can rely on to do various errands and tasks that no other person would find difficulty replicating. He did this well - even if he had to assume all the criticism thrown his way. And RSA knew that. He may have overstepped his boundaries that earned the ire of the SMC fans but to RSA, he's an extremely valuable resource person to have.
