Blakely will return as San Mig Coffee import
Cone told Solar Sports Desk that they have decided to call back the high-flying Blakely to once more help the team’s cause.
“He’s coming back. He’s arriving in July. We went to the finals with him (so we decided to again give him a call),” said the grand slam coach.
“We went to a game 7 championship with him. We just fell short because he fouled out early in the fourth quarter, so we want to give him another opportunity,” added Cone.
In his 2012 third conference campaign with the then BMEG Llamados, the 6-5, 220-lb forward registered impressive numbers of 22.36 points, 13.36 rebounds, 3.27 assists, 2.73 steals and 2.55 blocks per game.
Unfortunately, the Mixers lost the crown to the Jamelle Cornley-led Rain or Shine Elastopainters, 4 games to 3.
“He is a guy who brings chemistry to the team. We liked him. He has great work ethic. We’re looking forward to bring him back,” said Cone, whose team suffered a disappointing title defense in the ongoing Commissioner’s cup, losing to the Alaska Aces in the semis.
Blakely is expected to arrive in the country sometime in July.
Aside from San Mig, other teams which already announced the names of their imports are Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (Dior Lowhorn) and Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters (Tony Mitchell).
Cornley will not be given a chance to defend his best import plum as management of Rain or Shine already decided to part ways with the wide-bodied wingman after a brush with the law last March.
Petron is said to be eyeing former Rain or Shine reinforcement Arizona Reid, though team sources say there are also a number of prospects on the list.
