  • Frustrated by Petron’s early exit, Jay Washington complains about lack of playing time
    Rey Joble, InterAKTV · Sunday, April 21, 2013 · 9:22 pm

The Petron Blaze Boosters ended another disappointing campaign on Sunday, getting swept in the quarterfinals of the Commissioner’s Cup by arch-rival Talk ‘N Text.

After the match, star forward Jay Washington expressed his disappointment not only with the loss, but his lack of playing time.

“What’s more frustrating on my part was the 12 to 14 minutes of playing time given to me and watching my team losing while sitting on the bench,” Washington told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview.

A two-time winner of the Best Player of the Conference, Washington has been reduced to a backup this conference as new coach Olsen Racela put his stamp on the team.

“I’m not getting the minutes that I used to get when I was playing with San Miguel the past few years. I don’t know, maybe this is my new role on the team,” added Washington.

Washington hinted about a possible change of scenery.

“I don’t know what the future has in store for me. I just hope it’s something positive because I’ve been hearing a lot of stuff,” he said.

Seigle was a star, at his age, yes, he can still contribute; but at this point in time isn't he just a less whiny version of JWash??

Probably a bit whiny on court (and to the refs) but Seigle was and is not the cancer that Jwash is. i think being a "veteran" should help.

Either way, Washington or Santos for peanuts/scrubs and Petron will be a better team.

heck, Washington and cabagnot for yee, jondan, lingganay and a future first rounder is a great trade...pbb gets the role players they so desperately need while global gets a jwash-japeth frontline.

              • So Andy Jao is now the "super gm" of the MVP basketball empire
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

I don't think he'll be that powerful. There's just too many power factions at the MVP camp that having Andy Jao come in and lord over them is totally unrealistic.

He'll serve a purpose - he'll be there to lend a hand to Norman Black and other coaches who're willing to listen to him. He'll help out in getting quality imports overseas, he'll be there to help out in the scouting, he'll be there to help in the recruitment of HS players to the college teams of MVP. He'd probably start things working with Black as the latter was the one who recommended him. But he probably won't even get a seat on the bench, and will have to settle himself at ringside. If MVP finds him useful, expect him to be beside the businessman frequently.

                    • Early import for Barako Bull in Governors Cup
                      By Richard Dy
                      April 29, 2013, 07:08 pm

IMMEDIATELY addressing the strong inside presence lacking in the team, Barako Bull recently tapped the services of certified NBA veteran Othyus Jeffers as the Energy Cola prepare for the coming Dubai International Basketball Championships.

Toroman said the tournament is part of the team’s early training for the season-ending PBA Governors Cup, of which the Energy Cola hope to have Jeffers as their import.

“We’re looking at Othyus just for Dubai, but we’ll see. I saw some clips but you’ll never know till you see him here,” Toroman told Spin.ph Monday.

Barako Bull failed to advance past the eliminations of the Commissioner’s Cup with Evan Brock and DJ Mbenga as imports.

The 200-pound Jeffers is listed at 6-foot-5 in the NBA’s official web page.

He played for three NBA teams starting with the Utah Jazz, where he averaged 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.1 minutes in 10 games during the 2010 season.

The 27-year-old Jeffers, later on suited up for a single game for the San Antonio Spurs in 2011, before winding up the regular season seeing action for the Washington Wizards, averaging 5.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 16 contests.

His NBA career averages in 31 games were 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Barako Bull team manager Raffy Casyao said Jeffers is a strong candidate as the team’s possible import in the Governors Cup, stressing they are determined to make a strong run in the final conference of the season after finishing ninth in both the Philippine Commissioner’s Cups.

i remember the golden era of Barako Bull where their import were pretty effective, e.g Tony Lang, Julius Nwoso , James Penny,??
We can have no progress without change, whether it be basketball or anything else

                        • He will be there just to share what other teams especially the smc teams(pros and colllge) are think..If he thinks that team x is a point guard away for being champion team he will tell that..

Imo he is one of the very best in evaluating talent. Heck if Michael Jordan can hire this guy to get in his team he should do it.. thats how good heis eye in talent is. Eala's strength is ability to get the players SMC wanted while Jao is good in talent evaluation.

But Sir JPM is right, will he more often than not overrule some MVP's own personal preferences (getting guys from Ateneo, SBC) in pros and in the national team

Personal favorite is Quemont Greer when it comes to pure talent...

is that the guy replaced by james penny? if i remember right, the guy was a heavy scorer.

other barako/redbull import i remember is Victor Thomas, a 6'6/6'7 hardworking undersized PF. i think they lost to a toraye braggs-led Ginebra in 2004 finals.

Yes, Q Greer was the one replaced by James Penny in the 2005-06 Fiesta Conference.

Victor Thomas originally played for Sta. Lucia and was rehired by Red Bull in the 2004 season where they ended up runners-up.

Since we're talking about Jao, other imports that he helped bring in include the likes of Michael Young (at Manila Beer), Francois Wise (also at Manila Beer although he first played for U/Tex), Butch Hays (Manila Beer), Aaron James (U/Tex, SMB), among others...
