Or how about Air21's Wynne Arboleda guarding Calvin hahaha!
I think you're forgetting Ogie Menor. Now that I'd like to see. San Beda vs. San Sebastian. Both 6'2", probably the same weight. Both like to play physical. Both outspoken. Both short-fused trash talkers. Let's get ready to rumble!!!!!!

Belga's not an even match. He's 2 inches taller and maybe 30 or so pounds heavier. Arboleda, on the other hand, is too small for Abueva. I think Arboleda's only 5'10" or so. But he is barrel chested and very strong too.

I remember during Gilas 1.0, there were issues between the two (Chris Tiu and Paul Lee) on why Paul Lee did not want to join Gilas at that time.
We know that Chris is the leader of Gilas 1.0. Will he carry that attributes in ROS? I think so. So what will happen now when Paul Lee is back, as he is the current leader of this team.
well if that happens, it'll be Paul's problem. Coach Yeng would not like such things in his team, if ever Guiao will just tell Paul that this is not Gilas as this is Rain Or Shine, if you think I'm playing favorites get out of my team. To Yeng, all his players are of equal importance, everyone plays a certain role. Even if Buenafe was supposed to be Yeng's favorites, he was not playing well .... so sit and now he is out. You have to remember in all of his teams ..... "isa lang ang bida" and that's Yeng Guiao.

I forgot about Ogie because the two became close when they both were playing for NLEX in the PBA D-League. Unknown to most basketball fans despite the animosity shown on the basketball court among the close basketball friends of Calvin outside of Baste are San Beda's Ogie Menor, Dave Marcelo, Garvo Lanete and Jake Pascual, he'll even invite said friends to join him in a number of "larung-labas" to earn "extra cash".

But if ever Ogie would be set to show Calvin why he was the King Lion before Abueva showed-up in the NCAA. In the NCAA Abueva might be the Beast but in the PBA, Menor was called a Dirty Player by even a person with a reputation named Yeng Guiao.

Remember those Ginebra teams that had Gonzalgo, Distrito, Loyzagas, Isaac, Jarencio, Gayoso, Chuatico, Cabatu, Ong, Locsin, Cheng, De Joya, Dudut????

Man those guys really played physical and intimidating defense and gave really hard fouls.

Even a clean-cut Fil-Am Atenean like Vince Hizon played tough back then. Even the skinny Bal David and the often-times uninspired/lackadaisical Marlou Aquino were playing tough and rough, too. I remember what they used to say back then - "larong Ginebra, larong kalye". Streetball as in raw, rugged, and not just tough but rough.

            • I don't think Abueva is a dirty player, maangas lang talaga, he also takes as much hard fouls as he gives.
the thing with SSC is though, something eventful usually happens when this guy is on the floor.

Abueva is not a dirty player anymore, but he was so dirty in his first few years in the league. I've seen him throw punches, elbows, groin shots, shoves, knees, pushes, etc. Maybe he realized that he needs to grow up in order to succeed in the PBA.

As a Bedan, I hated him in his first few years in the league because of his dirty plays. But now, I'm a fan because he really is talented and he's not dirty anymore. Well, except for that sucker punch that gave him a one-game suspension. But compared to the Abueva of old, the Abueva now is a saint.

                • i don't get the taha incident...the guy does have swagger, most filams do, but it really was rabeh who started it all. yes taha did a fighting stance but it was rabeh who swung first. how can you respect someone like that? and yes, talking trash and doing gulang moves last time i checked is part of the game...as long as someone does not intentionally hurt somebody then he shouldn't be labeled a dirty player. magulang yes but dirty is reserved for the menors or distritos of the world. i like guys with swag actually, love having them as teammates...better having them as opponents as they bring out the best in you. you have to have a cool head though for you to take it as a challenge. same goes with abueva.

Teams, actually TRIBES, in tug-of-war for a ROCK. This is even the center of discussion in BOARD MEETING yesterday.

People here are saying that rookies have no right to defend themselves...they respect rabeh for what he did?
