Unfortunately, at this point having Junemar there comes with its own defensive troubles. Not only do you need to have players who can score with Junemar but you need players who can compensate for his defense. That is what the death 5 was. Of those, probably only Marcio didnt have holes in his game.
Let’s start with JF. In his prime he was the system. He was heavy and unstoppable in the paint. It helped that PBA adjusted calls to allow him to push off driving guards.
Arwind at his core is a defensive pest with his long arms, mobility and athleticism. But he started off as a horrendous 3 pt shooter shooting 1/9 or 1/11 from 3. Eventually he upped his efficiency. He was undersized but it didnt matter because Junemar could handle the paint by himself.
Ross was a non shooter defensive pest. The main difference between him and Arwind was he was a guard and shooting was his job. He was however the PBAs best defender.
Cabagnot was the opposite end. A subpar defender but good scorer. A bit too shoot first but it worked.
Marcio again was the sole real two way player. At certain times he was almost unstoppable and he was a good defender at the other end. At times the PBA allowed extra physicality on him so it wasnt a mismatch. Like when the slow James Yap was matched up against him
The problem with recreating the death 5 is that the PBA moved on. Junemar cant get away from pushing driving guards.
He’s still a force in the paint but now he needs to guard his man on the perimeter or on ball screens. He can give good effort like on their catchup against North Port bit that is because he sat for a long time.
For SMB to be able to extend JMFs effectiveness they have to decrease his minutes. They have to use guys like Mo more. Mo is decent perimeter and ball screen defender as a center. He can guard imports that JMF cant.
For omce they have to build a new strategy not reliant on Junemars dominance. That is how other teams do it. There is only one team in the PBA who builds their offense on a single player. It’s high time they build an effective strategt when he is on the bench.

SMB is also a not good destination if you want to start (or restart for veterans) your career.. look what happened to Vic Manuel, Jeron Teng, even Brondial they put him on the bench... They Pessumal few years back but they not give him a chance, he could be a Lassiter's replacement, but now he lost his confidence due to benching... Not all time they can harvest anytime, they have to develop players on their own....

Its just a cycle. Like any great teams before them. You created one you ride it as long as you can as a pledge for their services and a reward for their loyalty. Once it does not work anymore then start to overhaul it. When will you overhaul that is a difficult question as you don't know when a player can still be serviceable. Some can do it past their prime and exit gracefully. And you don't want just to cut players like Arwin early as you don't know the future and move on to Tantua. This was not a successful transition. You might get the first part right but not always the next part. The Cycle of Basketball.

He have some good games in KBL, 2 18 pt game performance and 1 17 pt game performance.. not that consistent but still fine numbers.. he can't get opportunity that he needs.. Maybe he was signed by TNT maybe he will get more opportunities since only Castro and Nambatac are regular PG rotation there or even teams like ROS..

Put him in other teams and he will delivers.. Remember TNT had interest on him but SMB have his rights due to the league rules for rookie picks, that's why TNT can't sign him...

If SMB is looking for a Ross replacement, they should take a look at Epistola, a serviceable defensive PG for KCC in the KBL. Shut down KBL MVP alvano last season in the playoffs. Thats why even with lacking offense, he was resigned. I don't know next season though if KCC is looking to upgrade their Asian quota
