To secure the tallest frontline, kuliglig told me CONVERGE is eyeing MOALA TUATUAA who will be an unrestricted free agent by March.

Management believes having a big man who can shoot and is comfortable at the perimeter will give the team advantage offensively and defensively.

This is a big win for Converge if they can pull it off. Arana has been injury prone as of late. Mo has been playing well as of late. Can score from outside and inside. Good post defender and decent at switches for a center.

Will Tautuaa leave SMB (or SMC camp in general)? We all know SMC camp is the richest among participants in the PBA.. if he wants future financial security with his family then stay with SMB.. But if he wants to re introduce himself as one of the premier bigs in the league, Leaving SMB is the answer.. Mo can be a starter in any teams outside SMB, his talent is wasted by just being Junmar's back up.. And he don't know if Coach Leo still have trust in him.. This is on Mo's decision.. This could be his final chance to revive his career, Remember when he was in Northport? He almost average double double back then and playing in his best games with Northport.. I don't remember a player leaved SMC camp via UFA after introduced it last 2022... It will be the first marquee player from SMC leave if Mo decides it via UFA...

          • Yeah finally put Carino in a capable team (its smb sure) but its better than terrafirma, sanggalang plays similar to trollano, hes decent but not exactly solving smb's problems here which is outside shooting

            • Carino in theory works well with Fajardo on both sides of the court--will be main rim protector defensively but won't clog the lane offensively.

              • But Terrafirma, alongside Blackwater sell their franchise to capable franchise.. they are the reasons why the league unbalanced and unwatchable most of the games especially if they are playing...

They have Bulanadi last season but they didn't used him too much... SMB can't capable on developing players on their own...

                  • Carino is long and actually has a good outside shot. He’s a bit awkward though and I dont think he can dribble. On the other hand JF won a lot with Arwind who also couldn’t dribble.

                    • I think for quite a while now SMB's problems were masked by Junemar (and cj to some extent). Look at their lineup and they still have most of the death 5 lineup sprinkled with role players here and there, they never really replaced their starters, ross is done now, marcio even if hes still handy is no longer a starter for a competing team. They need a cabagnot replacement, they need a marcio replacement, even an arwind replace (no cahilig is a starter on a competing team) the prospect of Carino is interesting but they really should just stop beating around the bush and stop signing more role players like Louie sanggalang, they need bonified starters.

They can't develop their rookies, what do you expect? Nava could be a Ross or Cabagnot replacement but they buried him on the bench.. he's an Asian import in Korea doing fine numbers... SMB is also a not good destination if you want to start (or restart for veterans) your career.. look what happened to Vic Manuel, Jeron Teng, even Brondial they put him on the bench... They Pessumal few years back but they not give him a chance, he could be a Lassiter's replacement, but now he lost his confidence due to benching... Not all time they can harvest anytime, they have to develop players on their own....

to be fair vic manuel and jeron teng are just a bad fit for smb since they clog the paint, cant even play they with JMF

Around June Mar, you will need players who can shoot and defend. Vic does neither. Although he can hit from midrange, he's not a three-point shooter, and he's a defensive liability, I did see Jeron do well on defense sometimes, though.

Everybody here knew they were bad fit from the start but they were posting ok numbers prior and were somewhat younger. Makes no sense why they wouldn't just get players who fits their system

                              • I think the problem is they only know one way of winning and that is with Junemar. Unfortunately, at this point having Junemar there comes with its own defensive troubles. Not only do you need to have players who can score with Junemar but you need players who can compensate for his defense. That is what the death 5 was. Of those, probably only Marcio didnt have holes in his game.

Let’s start with JF. In his prime he was the system. He was heavy and unstoppable in the paint. It helped that PBA adjusted calls to allow him to push off driving guards.

Arwind at his core is a defensive pest with his long arms, mobility and athleticism. But he started off as a horrendous 3 pt shooter shooting 1/9 or 1/11 from 3. Eventually he upped his efficiency. He was undersized but it didnt matter because Junemar could handle the paint by himself.

Ross was a non shooter defensive pest. The main difference between him and Arwind was he was a guard and shooting was his job. He was however the PBAs best defender.

Cabagnot was the opposite end. A subpar defender but good scorer. A bit too shoot first but it worked.

Marcio again was the sole real two way player. At certain times he was almost unstoppable and he was a good defender at the other end. At times the PBA allowed extra physicality on him so it wasnt a mismatch. Like when the slow James Yap was matched up against him

The problem with recreating the death 5 is that the PBA moved on. Junemar cant get away from pushing driving guards.

He’s still a force in the paint but now he needs to guard his man on the perimeter or on ball screens. He can give good effort like on their catchup against North Port bit that is because he sat for a long time.

For SMB to be able to extend JMFs effectiveness they have to decrease his minutes. They have to use guys like Mo more. Mo is decent perimeter and ball screen defender as a center. He can guard imports that JMF cant.

For omce they have to build a new strategy not reliant on Junemars dominance. That is how other teams do it. There is only one team in the PBA who builds their offense on a single player. It’s high time they build an effective strategt when he is on the bench.
