Thing is, he can't really defend a PnR coverage that well. There aren't many pick and roll plays in the PBA. When there's a pick, it's usually to force a switch, or a means for the ballhandler to drive to the basket.
I blame the SMC for this. Again Junemar was asked by Tab to lose weight for the OQT. The result was his best defensive performance in Fiba. It was not enough but it couldve been a good start. But the problem was a light Junemar was not SMB needed for its AFC dominance. They needed a heavy Junemar dominating the paint to anchor their AFC dominance. Just let Arwind, Ross and Lassiter handle the defense around him.

The point of no return was when he broke his leg on a fastbreak layup with nobody around him in practice. There were warning signs earlier when he had a hairline fracture detected a couple of times before. But did they change their style of play or ask JF to be lighter no not really. He played in the paint for close to 40 minutes a game even in elims games against farm teams. Junemar made the adjustment himself by halting the Euro step move he favored but probably put pressure on his single leg.

SMC only relented in letting JMF lose some weight, play the outside more and lessened playing time only after he broke his leg.

After a broken leg you cant really expect JMF to improve significantly on defense anymore. Even Paul George was not as good after breaking his leg. JMF still tries to grow his game. But unfortunately after a broken leg his defense will always be suspect.

Anyways he had graduated Mechanical Engineering degree with Academic honors in Vanderbilt University, completed post-graduate degree in Citadel, a military school and on the verge of getting another masters degree in UP. He has lot of options. There would be a lot of automobile companies in Japan who would like to offer him 6 or 7 figures monthly salary (in Philippine pesos) if he decide not to pursue basketball career. And yes, he can definitely play there as world import status instead of Asian import quota status. And if PBA stick to its policy on monthly salary of rookies of 150k monthly. No brainer QMB will not bite on that.

For him basically no incentive for him to play for PBA unless the PBA team that may draft him will circumvent the rules on rookies’ salary. But again hello tax office…
SMC has power plants, oil refinery, bottling plants, LNG terminal, BESS facility, mining, construction etc.. he can have a career after basketball here if he sticks with Al Chua.

Atleast JF was able to be our banger inside against much heftier opponents that Kai and Edu. Besides how quick will he be as no one I watch that became athletic even losing weight like Joker

              • Poy Erram isn’t going anywhere — for now. The veteran big man will remain with TNT at least until the end of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup as his contract was automatically extended. Players with expiring deals, per league rules, will be ‘auto-extended’ until the end of a conference should the expiry date fall […]

                  Sir R1ck,

the last time I've heard it's all about "verbal here verbal there", small talk here, small talk there

in short no concrete agreement yet.

                  • The "farm team" image will only vanish if Northport retains its current key players for a considerable period of time. If Arvin Tolentino, Joshua Munzon, Will Navarro, Cade Flores stay with the team in the next 3 or 4 years, then the "farm team" reputation would diminish. .
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Im betting that by next season at least Arvin Tolentino and William Navarro will be traded away to one of the main teams of SMC. I could actually see SMC making Northport trade William Navarro and Arvin Tolentino to Magnolia in exchange for Paul Lee and Calvin Abueva.

                      • Tim or SMB is getting Will Navarro, Arvin to magnolia sure, magnolia usually gets scraps anyway, smc will probably get Munzon as the Ross replacement

Id say Ginebra will probably get Navarro since they desperately need size

Maybe trading Jeremiah Gray to get William Navarro would work. And I think with Gray going to Northport he would be able to realize his potential there since he wont be getting any significant minutes in Ginebra with Stephen Holt, Maverick Ahamnisi and Jaime Malonzo around.

                          • I want to know the story between Danny I and SMC. Apparently he was the original SMC chicken farmer and also owned a Petron franchise. Now Dave is in the middle of whatever happened.
