Mark Borboran is the hottest commodity so far. Hahahah.. Whether he goes to Meralco or Petron he is going to log limited PT due to stacked Forwards though the need for bigs for Petron will give him more PT than in Meralco.

But can the Shopinas afford him? Also, the commissioner respected Alaska's rights (over Petron) and honored the "trade" so i doubt he counts as a real "free agent" technically...

Petron wanting some payback from that Eman lull before but luckily for Alaska they got the trade they needed but I am curious to what will happen if Meralco will not be able match Petron's offer? Will the trade be disregarded?

Nope he is not. He just relegated to the what they call unrestricted free-agent. Like what happened to Sam Eman.

The right of first refusal over free agent Mark Borboran now belongs to the Meralco Bolts.

On Tuesday, the PBA approved a trade between Alaska, for whom Borboran played in his first three seasons in the league, and Meralco, which sent the Aces its second round picks in 2013 and 2014.

Borboran’s status has been the subject of speculation after the versatile forward was left unsigned by the Aces. There are reports that Borboran had been given an offer by the Petron Blaze Boosters.

“The 30-day period after the end of the player’s contract had already lapsed, meaning a team can make an offer sheet to Borboran,” said PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial.

With Meralco now owning the rights to Borboran, it’s now up to the Bolts to match the offer by Petron to retain the forward.

Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio is confident that his team will be able to sign up his team’s newest acquisition.

“As we speak now, he’s joining the team and he will be part of our plan for this season,” said Gregorio. “If you look at my line up, the small forward position is something that really needs help.”

“But anything can happen in basketball. I still don’t know what’s the offer of Petron for Borboran.”
