I am a bit iffy with guys who had major knee surgery and shooting. I think it's only Maliksi who has had a major knee surgery but is still a dead shot. But a big developing into a better 3 pt shooter after major knee surgery I'm doubtful. Case in point, Sanggalang. Cade is an energy guy but how is his shooting stroke?

Hodge is what Trillo’s Abueva in the last championship of Alaska in 2013.. very hardworking, do it all player… it’s very rare to have those players in the PBA…

Maybe, but will Bolick adjust too? Because in NLEX, he can do whatever he wants… that’s why Kiefer is the best fit to this current Meralco team… because he’s more matured than Bolick, can play D, knows Nenad system and he will not kill chemistry of Meralco’s teammates.. Not sure about Bolick.. the question only is will Kiefer return?

Marcial bares plans for the 49th season which starts on Aug. 8:

-PBA teams to still play in EASL
          -Unlimited height for Commissioner's Cup
-A foreign team could play in the Commissioner's Cup
-Possibility of two imports in Comm's Cup if foreign team joins

          -Davao to host All-Star

          Here's more:
-Governors' Cup will have a two-group format to be followed a crossover quarterfinals
-Teams will face those in their group twice
I also heard Kume mention that each team will play once against the teams from the other group as part of the eliminations.

So, there are 60 total group stage games between teams within the same group. Then add the crossover group games, it's 96 elims games. That adds 15 more gamedays to the Governors' Cup, extending the season by a month.

          • I don't understand what group play will bring. I get it it's a new thing. But adding 15 more games for this doesn't make sense.

I said 15 more gamedays. That translates to 30 more than the usual 66 games in the elims.

Additional games to bet? More gambling revenue for the league

Yes doesn't really make sense to add games. That might increase the chance of injuries.

Wait. Teams within the same group will play each other twice while the those outside the group only once. If my understanding is right, teams will have 10 games each against their groupmates while 6 games teams outside their group for a total of 16 elimination games.

This is if there will be only 12 teams in that conference.

If this is the case, I don't see any sense for a separate import conference. Just merge the Governor's and Commissioner's Cup.

The 16 is per team. 96 is the total number of elims games across the league.

Just merge the two import-laden conferences. That will be 27 games. If I were the PBA, just reintroduce the wildcard phase for the 7th-10th seed. The winners will be face the top 2 seeds in the best of 5 quarterfinals. Winners will advance to the best of 7 semis. The last 2 teams will play best of 7 final series.

Go with decent-sized arenas nearby NCR, especially for non-Ginebra games.

                        • "Commissioner Willie Marcial said during Wednesday’s press briefing that the Governors’ Cup will see the 12 teams be divided into two groups and will play a double round-robin elimination round within their same bracket.

With the format, each team will play 10 games in the elimination round, instead of the usual 11 when a single round-robin tournament were enforced in other conferences."

I don't know but I don't think that this is what the fans want.

So just 10 games? I don't see one less game affecting the play much. I don't really know if this sparks interest. But I guess better this than not trying any change at all.

this is for scheduling purposes as they need to cater easl and other fiba windows with groupings they can easily schedule games even triple headers..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                              1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

                              • At least there is change even just a little change for now. I might go back watching PBA online, or in tv or maybe even live because of removal of height limit on import and the propose two import conference will make it a more interesting and challenging league. However to get back my full interest in pba, I have to see the following changes: Bring back draft lottery to prevent tanking, 1 or at least 2 conference only to give more time for international competition, more legit teams be added, no more farm teams and add a division two for relegation zone (maybe a tie up with mpbl to turn it into a division two)
