Meralco’s defense is good. But that is their problem. Their two best players are below average shooters. Newsome would rather force a drive or contested middy than an open 3.
Nenad drew up a play with 1 second left for Newsome to get a wide open corner long two only for him to undershoot it entirely. Hodge on the other hand does not have one sure shot. Doesnt even attempt a 3.
Their 3rd best player plays on surgically repaired knees that limits his minutes. Maliksi scored 10 pts in the first half. And only got his first 2nd half bucket late in the 4th.
No matter how good their defense was they had to double CS and that meant leaving Cu or another shooter open.
They have a decent pick in Bates. Solid in defense but very raw on offense.
Their other picks though are questionable. Pasaol a 6’2 PF proves barely playable. Does not know how to box out. And is cold from 3. He becomes a target practice everytime Hodge needs to sit. Heck NLEX’s 5’10 Dominick Fajardo is more undersized but contributed more than him on both sides of the court.
5’9 Jolo Mendoza does not deserve to be in the PBA and yet played several minutes against Stanley Pringle. The guy is slow and has no decent handles nor quickness.
You see the sever unheralded but good forwards and guards picked low in this season and yet Meralco picked these two guys.
They got lucky in Quinto. Although he was a 5’10 PF in college he has the skills, mobiltiy explosiveness and length to play SF and some SG in the PB. But the guy doesnt treat his body like Passol.

Notable players picked after Pasaol: Nick Demusis, Alec Stockton, David Murrell, Andrei Caracut, RK Ilagan
As for Mendoza, I can't find any notables as of yet.

Sucks lang talaga that the way to win in the PBA is far different from the way you win in continental club competitions.

That means Converge, who will likely pick Baltazar have to wait for him... Expecting another tanking next season for Converge because MPBL will likely finish their season somewhere late December or early January (In case Pampanga Lanterns will go all the way to the finals of MPBL)... next PBA season will likely start in August and MPBL still in the middle of their season... So Converge will playing w/o Baltazar atleast more than half of the season... expecting he will miss AFC and majority of Commissioners cup next year...""failure is not the end but just the beginning of a victorious journey..just keep on dreaming and we will be back on the olympics''''

Here's a video on multi-club ownership. Kinda similar to sister teams in the PBA, but in this case, they're spread across multiple domestic leagues around the world.
Most notorious are the City Group, who own Manchester City in the Premier League, Melbourne City in the A-League in Aussie, New York City FC in the MLS, and even Girona, who will finish third in La Liga. Interesting, seeing both Man City and Girona are both in next year's UEFA Champions League, so they are given divestment options to prevent collusion and all that.

PVL slowly going the PBA route. The will also be having their first ever draft this July.
Palou says controversial swap green lighted after heated argument among PVL management committee members
Palou bared to SPIN.ph how he opposed the Akari-Nxled trade but was outnumbered in a ‘heated argument’ among members of the PVL management team, leading to a vote in favor of the second PVL sister-team transaction of 2024.
“There are mixed feelings. Personally, I was against it. But the PVL is ran by a management team of five. Just because I’m president, it doesn’t mean that what I say goes. We sit down, we discuss, we look at the pros and cons,” said Palou.
“But then, this happened with Akari and they’re saying now na wala pa kasi tayong rules na black and white. I said that’s beside the point, we already informed you. But they said they will contest that. They don’t have anything to show for that.
“It became a heated argument among us. So we went to a vote. I lost in that vote,” he added.
Prior to the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference in February, Choco Mucho hotshots Bea de Leon and Denden Lazaro-Revilla were shipped to sister team Creamline — one that led to a verbal pronouncement from the league restricting sister-team transactions.
“This issue, I was really against it. In fact, from the very beginning, I was saying we will not allow the transfers of some players from Choco Mucho to Creamline. We shouldn’t have allowed this anymore,” said Palou.

Originally posted by JAMSKIE View PostI couldn't agree with U more bro about the PBA. To be blunt, PBA isn't really a national team friendly league. I mean if you compare the PBA to other pro basketball leagues in Asia like the B-league, CBA, KBL, as well as the pro leagues of Iran & Lebanon, you will realize how national team friendly those leagues are & how disimilar our beloved PBA is. For one, yung PBA calendar isn't synchronized with the FIBA calendar which is something that the pro leagues of China, Japan, Iran, Korea, Lebanon are. I have tackled this subject countless of times na in this forum.
About AJ Edu, I just hope he doesn't end up in the PBA. I feel that players like Kai Sotto, AJ Edu, Dwight Ramos, who are vital components of Gilas should never play in the PBA. They are better off playing elsewhere.
Ang No. 1 problem dyan if AJ Edu plays in the PBA is his availability with the national team.
Let's see if the PBA can compress the season to last until mid-June, because the PBA did a June to April season last 2022-23 with a 3-conference format, plus 12 additional games in the Commissioner's Cup and window adjustments for July/August 2022, November 2022, and February 2023. Thing is, though, that season ended too close to the SEA Games (2 and a half weeks before the SEA Games, to be exact). Good thing we were good enough to win that gold thanks to JB, Newsome, CStand, BGR.
