Originally posted by OstinYorHim View PostFew days ago, I heard despite the strong start of Terrafirma, that Holt is eventually headed to Mags.
Snow posted a rumor today that most people are assuming that it’s Holt to Ginebra or SMB. But afaik it’s actually Mags if they dont change plans. (Remember, Stanhardinger was bound for Mags before heading to SMB/Ginebra instead back then)

Heck even a few of the Converge games were unpredictable. Was it against NP were they led by double digits for 3 quarters? Actually even ROS seems to be tanking. They lost a game vs TNT because they missed a lot of FTs. But still some of their games are close.
I didnt see the BW vs TF game last night. But BW led the game by 20 pts only for TF to catch up in the 4th.
Teams actually have good young talents. In terms of personnel I would say only SMB and GSM are clearly superior. SMB with JMF and GSM with CS and Japeth. The rest have bigs that can mostly cancel each other out.
Then you have the younger tall mobile forwards. Teams like NP are pretty exciting when they field an SF PF C trio of 6’5 and up guys who can run, dribble and shoot from outside.
The good thing about this conf is that the two farm teams are actually playing to their potential and not bent on out-losing each other. We know Converge and ROS are only strategically tanking. It is refreshing for me to see BW and TF maximizing their talents and actually trying to win games. Plus rookies like Lucero, Flores and others are exciting too see. They bring something new to the league.
The only thing that's lacking in the PBA nowadays is centers with enough size, length, strength, jumping, and/or mobility to actually play a starting role as the center. Only centers we have in the PBA fitting that category are June Mar (size), CStand (mobility and strength), and Japeth (size, jumping, and length).

The thing is the few good centers we have are playing outside of the PBA (Sotto, Edu and Baltazar). And speaking of bigs, I think Geo Chui will be a servicable big in the PBA since its not that often you see a homegrown center with the kind of size and mobility that he has. And I also hope that CJ Lane (if he ever finally makes it into the PBA) would be a capable big that can defend Junemar.お元気ですか?

(in essence why would FIBA consider him as a local if his own domestic league counts him as a foreigner)

well PBA will take the dwindling attendance issue seriously if gross receipts is a main source of income of the league. TV ratings, social media views and gambling related income still the main revenue sources for the PBA.
Plus, it has been argued here repeatedly that team owners treat the league as a gentleman's club and as a big tax write-off, which is in total contrast of NBA teams (who exists as individual corporations)Originally posted by ja.he View PostThat's why PBA is really irredeemable at this point unless the owners change the way they treat the league (highly unlikely). The same problem with MPBL to be honest.Originally posted by CoJ View PostPBA will continue to exist until SMC and MPIC decides to quit, dwindling gate receipt or not. Teams could have squeezed the hell out of the PBA, from merchandising, intellectual property, gate receipts etc., but no its just a big passion project slash tax break for the team owners.
Originally posted by CoJ View Postat first i thought Dioceldo Sy and the 2 Dennis Uys could introduce innovations in the league. But no, similar to Yue and Que of ROS, they were eaten by the system.
Now, look at the KBL, which made ₩4.4B (around ₱186M) from gate attendance in January. This article says they're on track to reach ₩10B (₱4.2M) for that:

Other leagues are taking measures to improve, e. If our teams keeps on treating the league as a tax break instead of a source of income, the PBA will just be as is. If there's any improvement, it will be slow. It will affect the reputation of the league among the fans. I mean, come on. EASL pa lang, the PBA teams were 2-14 the past two tournaments (and lost all games by double digits in March 2023, including a 55-point blowout loss by SMB).

Quinito says that the PBA season next year will have three conferences, with the All-Filipino in August : https://x.com/TheDeanQuinito/status/...844869778?s=20
Hay, nako. A PBA three-conference season typically lasts 10-12 months. Do these guys realize that we have a FIBA tournament in August 5 next year, and we run the risk of not giving our guys sufficient prep time?
