If more playoffs is the issue, why not just convert the All-Filipino into a knockout tournament for the top 2 or top 4 of each of the Governors' and Commissioner's Cups? Best-of-3 quarters, best-of-5 semis, then best-of-7 finals. You shave almost two months of the tournament, and you still get more playoff games.Attack

What part of the business doesn't make sense,? In the US regular season ratings have been in decline for years now. The value of the NBA package is almost all in the finals. This is why they added the in season tourney, if they could have two seasons in a year without backlash Id guess they'd do it.
- The thing is NBA has merchandise sales, gate attendance and broadcasting around the world to compliment their domestic TV ratings. They can still generate decent revenue with that. PBA has a worse gate attendance, hard-to-sell merchandise and the league is just confined within the Philippines.
"The value of the NBA package is almost all in the finals."
- Playoffs to be exact. Why is that? Because of the very long but lone regular season. Ofcourse, the fans will be hyped up because after that regular season, next phase will happen. PBA, having three conferences, does not have this excitement factor.

- But this is not a PBA-type of tournament. It is just a blitz tournament like the Emperor's Cup, KBL Cup and NBL Blitz.Attack

^Its not just the inseason tourney, the NBA also added play-in tournament which devalue the regular season but adds higher stakes games and as a fan I enjoy them. The NBA inseason tourney I think will evolve into something bigger especially if it doesn't catch on this first year.
Also if anything the NBA regular season is too long but again money talks and they arent giving up those games.
EDIT: My point being the movement is towards high stakes games, not a longer regular season.

- Play-in does not really devalue the regular season. It's the exact opposite because it will give a chance to the 9th and 10th seeds or teams that peaked a little late in the season. It also pushes the 11th, 12th and even 13th seed to work harder and not just tank the whole for the next year's draft. I also like the play-in as well because of this reason.

- NBA has a real off-season of roughly 3-4 months. The PBA does not have such a long off-season, or even a real off-season in the first place. Summer League and Pre-Season tourmaments occur during these periods so the NBA is still operating even in the off-season.Attack
