If he wants additional teams, then that should come with the adoption of permanent imports (which frankly should come regardless to address the weaknesses of the teams outside of Ginebra and to an extent, TNT) so as to not oversaturate the quality of the competition. Two world imports + one naturalized player/Asian import.

Best-of-3 quarters, best-of-5 semis, then best-of-7 finals. You shave almost two months of the tournament, and you still get more playoff games.
Why not merge the Governor's Cup and the Commissioner's Cup into one? Both are just duplicates of one to the other.

More playoff tournaments, e, which I think is the sentiment of most, if not all, of the forumers here. More playoffs = more money.

Cmon, the NBA is moving towards this kind of model by adding the in season tourney. Higher stakes=More Viewers.

The word "in-season" tournament. Take note.

What part of the business doesn't make sense,? In the US regular season ratings have been in decline for years now. The value of the NBA package is almost all in the finals. This is why they added the in season tourney, if they could have two seasons in a year without backlash Id guess they'd do it.

                • Jeron signs with SMB

A couple of days after tying the knot with long-time partner Jeanine Tsoi, Jeron Teng secured his future. Teng has signed a two-year deal with San Miguel. Teng’s agent Danny Espiritu confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times. Now, Jeron follows the footsteps of his dad Alvin, who played for the Beermen from 1986-1994. Teng and […]

"In the US regular season ratings have been in decline for years now. "

                    - The thing is NBA has merchandise sales, gate attendance and broadcasting around the world to compliment their domestic TV ratings. They can still generate decent revenue with that. PBA has a worse gate attendance, hard-to-sell merchandise and the league is just confined within the Philippines.

"The value of the NBA package is almost all in the finals."

                    - Playoffs to be exact. Why is that? Because of the very long but lone regular season. Ofcourse, the fans will be hyped up because after that regular season, next phase will happen. PBA, having three conferences, does not have this excitement factor.

                    - But this is not a PBA-type of tournament. It is just a blitz tournament like the Emperor's Cup, KBL Cup and NBL Blitz.

                    • ^Its not just the inseason tourney, the NBA also added play-in tournament which devalue the regular season but adds higher stakes games and as a fan I enjoy them. The NBA inseason tourney I think will evolve into something bigger especially if it doesn't catch on this first year.

Also if anything the NBA regular season is too long but again money talks and they arent giving up those games.

EDIT: My point being the movement is towards high stakes games, not a longer regular season.

Yeah, the in-season tournament's like the Copa del Rey in Spain, where the top 8 teams by the ACB's midseason compete to win the trophy.

question is are ratings down because there's no interest or due to new digital platforms to watch the games?

                              - Play-in does not really devalue the regular season. It's the exact opposite because it will give a chance to the 9th and 10th seeds or teams that peaked a little late in the season. It also pushes the 11th, 12th and even 13th seed to work harder and not just tank the whole for the next year's draft. I also like the play-in as well because of this reason.

                              - NBA has a real off-season of roughly 3-4 months. The PBA does not have such a long off-season, or even a real off-season in the first place. Summer League and Pre-Season tourmaments occur during these periods so the NBA is still operating even in the off-season.

Partly but this is multifactorial. A big thing is the NFL absolutely dominating the US market. People are also understanding the regular season doesnt matter as much. Resting star players leads to poor ratings too and we know the trend is towards rest.
