  • who remembers the game between nba all stars and gilas 1 during the lockout when the pba representatives played like fans and got blown out while the gilas 1 played seriously and made it more competitive even though we all know that the nba all stars did not take them seriously until the last part

    Comment

    • that's how andray blatche became our NP. javale mcgee looked like prime giannis vs smart gilas/pba all-stars & was eventually recruited to be a NP but got injured prior to the WC. he then recommended his buddy andray blatche to take his place

      Comment

      • which is a blessing in disguise as Blatche's game fits better to the system that chot is running than Shaqtin MVP . though i think the current MCgee will be good for the national team but its all moot now as he represented team usa last Olympics

I heard of Liga MX (Mexican football league) doing this format, but I didn't know this was a thing across many Latin American leagues.

Only difference is, the Latin American leagues don't have the restrictions on imports like we do. Of course, more players in football, but they probably don't have an all-local tournament within their season.

There are season champions in an apertura-clausura format. PBA considers conference winners as season champions.

in La Liga there is a restriction for Non Eu players there's a limit of how many you can list in your squad, though of course unlike in our country which the current limit is 1 and even other leagues has limits for non local but not 1, and yes only in the Philippines has that all local tournament that really looks archaic , see 2/3 of the season they play with an import and those are the conferences that are more profitable and exciting as fans want to see how the foreign players will play especially if ex nba players, there was a poster in an ex forum that is not online anymore , who always brag about his team always winning the all filipino cup and discounting the import laden conference champion in which i find it more difficult to win because its more competitive compare to all filipino conference as its almost predictable , while in the import laden conference a good team that is not part of the conglomerates with a good import can somehow sneak in and win it all like those Red Bull and ROS teams of Coach Yeng, while Alaska during the days of Alex Compton may not win it all but they were always consistent top 4 when they had a perfect fit import

What's exciting in the UAAP now is that even 6'5 and up homegrowns are playing as lanky SFs. In the PBA, only GSM has had success with tall SFs, 6'5 and up, so far. Of course there is North Port but it is a farm team. What is encouraging though is Bay Dragons continued participation in the league.

It was obvious that GSM's tall SFs in Gray and Malonzo and mobile bigs in CS and Japeth were the best match-up to BAD's plethora of tall SF and their 6'9 mobile import, Nicholson. While there are no notable healthy tall SF in the draft, there are a lot of mobile bigs. We will see how skilled and mobile bigs like Villegas and Baltazar do in their rookie season. Teams like SMB need them to matchup against Nicholson and others though. So there is hope that they will be given playing time and not simply asked to bulk up, as is usually the case.
Villegas and Balti are tweeners, not really bigs like Beau and June Mar. The former two have shooting, as well as good defensive acumen and mobility, what Troy should have been (thanks TNT for developing him poorly, that's why he's not as good in Gilas). Those skillsets should be honed so as to retain usefulness for the international game.

Just like in the nba, I think the ones who will most benefit are the quick and skilled players. Just like how Curry is playing in the perfect era for him. Shooting will also be at a premium so all players will be forced to develop shooting skills. Defenses will be forced to be built on speed more than on physicality. Coaching will also be more dynamic if pace and space becomes the norm.

The most immediate beneficiaries are the Filams (especially the younger batches) who grew up with this style. Their skill level will become more evident when you take away over-physicality.

The game will also be more exciting because there will be more dunks. Dunking in the current playing style is very risky.
I do think rule changes should be more to FIBA rules when it comes to officiating fouls. We still need an element of physicality, but tweak them enough to allow skill to flourish and base defenses off timely rotations than just physicality.

I think the nba does a good job of balancing it. Regular season is long so players are protected more and at the end of the day, it's still for entertainment so offense is favored. In the playoffs though, especially as teams go deeper, physicality kicks up a notch when it really matters.

While most of these FSA aren't that skilled, I mean they don't come close to most world imports in terms of skills, I think having them as 2nd imports for PBA teams is going to elevate the level of competition in the PBA. Think of a Junmar Fajardo or a Japeth Aguilar having to contend against a 6-foot-10 Afro FSA who is athletic & strong. That 6-10 Afro FSA may not be as skilled as a Marcus Douthit or a Ricardo Ratliffe but I think pahihirapan naman nya si Junmar or si Japeth in the shaded lane & off the boards.
And force them to develop more skills. Japeth to focus on rim running and midrange, and June Mar will add more to his post repertoire and his jumper. Maybe improve his PnR defense. And force 6'5"-6'7" local bigs to develop a tweener's skillset.

Kuliglig told me (same guy who tipped me on Ricci Rivero contract before), Korea is willing to offer a basic pay of P2.5M per month while Australia is keen on offering more as they believe Filipinos provide big draw to the NBL, as what they felt when Kai Sotto was there.

NBL is said to have felt the departure of Kai as their social media accounts became bland after Pinoys stopped commenting and viewing their socmed accounts.

And Australian officials think Scottie can bring in bigger impact to them.

With the injury of Poy Erram, TNT is looking at getting Brandon Rosser from NLEX.

In exchange, they will ship Coach Frankie Lim’s long time banger Dave Marcelo plus one player to the Road Warriors.

The said trade might pass thru Blackwater.
