Meanwhile in the PBA - 1 import (restricted height)
And that import restriction is 6'10" for one tournament (1/3 of the season), and 6'6" for another tournament (1/3 of the season). Heck, there's even an all-local tournament.

At least allow a permanent import for the entire season. Gives other teams some form of inside presence, if they opt to choose a big for their import. Not everybody has Japeth Aguilar, Jamie Malonzo, and even June Mar Fajardo as rim protectors and inside presence. Furthermore, it might make some 6'5"-6'8" bigs who have the ability to play 4 more often. Bigs like Mo Tautuaa, Norbert Torres, Ian Sangalang, Dave Marcelo, JP Erram, Kelly Willams, Jeo Ambohot, Mike Miranda, Raymond Almazan, and JM Calma. The 4 is a position where they will find more minutes playing next to an import.

I think I'd been saying this for a while.

      • I think a 2-import format in the PBA would put some balance in the competition. By having 2 imports per team, teams like Meralco, Magnolia, NLEX, Converge, ROS would be able to compete better against powerhouses San Miguel, Ginebra & TnT.

Well, maybe that is one of the reasons why PBA won't embrace the 2-import set-up. Mahihirapan na mag champion ang SMB & Ginebra.

This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

        • 2 imports for the 2 cellar-dwelling teams, 1 unli-height 1 with 6'4 limit.

How come SMB and Ginebra will have a hard time winning the championship if they will also have 2 imports, unless you are handicapping these teams with 1 import while the rest will have 2 imports

If that happens, I hope BAD may also be invited to that proposed pre-season tournament so that those PBA ballclubs could assess what are the aspects they need to improve on before the actual tournament proper. As for the coming PBA D League, I hope ADMU may participate on this.

                      • Next PBA season will start in October: https://www.philstar.com/sports/2023...rt-after-asiad

                        1. It will be reduced to two conferences, the Philippine Cup and either the Commissioner’s or Governors’ Cup.

Honestly, I'd rather the season have the Commissioner's AND Governors' Cup. Scrap the All-Filipino as part of the regular season. And I hope the PBA goes at least to two conferences FOR GOOD, with the import conferences being the conferences. I'd prefer a single-season format, but this will have to do. If we want to be a better league than the KBL and B.League, having imports for the whole season is a start.

                        2. Draft will be held in September.

Becoz I think SMC & Ginebra's overwhelming edge in local talents would be significantly mitigated if each PBA team has 2 imports. With a 2-import format, the weaker PBA teams can hire imports who would who would cover the weak spots of a team. Notice how Meralco is usually competitive in import-laden conferences but isn't that competitive in All-Filipino conferences.

Believe me when I say that in a 2-import per team format, teams like Converge, NLEX, Meralco would be able to compete better against SMB & Ginebra.

Imports fill plenty of holes for a team. Wing play from a player 196cm and up (whether from the 3 or the 4), bigman play from a player 203cm and up (which not too many teams apart from Ginebra and SMB have), and rim protection. Those are key areas in which the PBA is lacking among its locals, and imports would fill those holes. More difficult matchups.

And if we're worried about displacement, if you have enough quality at the 3, 4, and 5 position, you won't be displaced. I don't exactly see Ian Sangalang, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Christian Standhardinger, and Justin Arana getting displaced at the 4 and 5 spots, and Jamie Malonzo, Will Navarro, Arvin Tolentino, Gabe Norwood, and Calvin Oftana won't get displaced at the wing spots.

Based on China logic. Them having too many imports neglected the development of their players hence they change it to one import at a time. Just like KBL, were they only won by 2 pts in WC despite KBL league is not at par with talent 9n the floor like CBA.

                              • it doesn't really apply in the PBA, they have 3 conferences, 1 without imports. so it doesn't hurt the locals much if only 1 other conference has 2 imports
