  • Ryan Alba talking about how imports play a lot of minutes, looking at the import numbers this conference: https://twitter.com/_alba__/status/1...3rQXoKFzg&s=19

He says that imports play a shit-ton of minutes because:

    1. Imports that are tired are still better than their backup.
    2. Given that conferences are short, there's no incentive to manage their minutes. There's more of an incentive to derive as much value as they can.

I'd want the conference format to change, but how can that be feasible in this case?

    • NBL-PBA partnership?

      https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/k...221116-fbfirst

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said he had a virtual meeting with NBL commissioner Jeremy Loeliger and general manager for government relations Tristan Russell on Wednesday, with a memorandum of agreement to be formalized at the soonest possible time.

?Nag-meeting kami, gusto nila partnership with the PBA at league-to-league ito. NBL Australia at PBA,? said Marcial.

Under the partnership, the PBA and NBL will hold collaborations like outreach programs, coaching clinics, referee?s clinics, and exhibition games.

?Magdadala sila dito ng team or All-Star na one or two games,? said Marcial, referring to the possible activities that will be lined up under the partnership.

Specifics of the collaboration are still being ironed out, but this early, there is a possibility of Sotto playing here as part of the PBA-NBL partnership.

?Sinabi nila na binanggit nga nila si Kai na maganda ang nilalaro, okay ?yung bata. Future NBA namin ?yun. Okay sila. Baka dadalhin nila dito kung All-Star, kung sila ang kalaban namin,? said Marcial.

Marcial said the NBL is also inviting PBA teams or an all-star selection to play in Australia.

?Iniimbita rin tayo doon. Kahit ano, All-Star, team nila lalaro dito, team natin lalaro doon,? said Marcial.

What is our Congress thinking by passing this? For non basketball reasons Brownlee deserves to be naturalized. But the goal is for us to be competitive in 2023 and beyond. Brownlee wont help us do that. Dont tell me this is just for the SEA games or Asian games? I dont see any benefit this will give us in the mid to long term. We are better off with a healthy McCullough.

Or is this SMC just flexing their muscle? All this effort for a guy that is almost past his prime. The recent games showed us that Kai needs help down low and that Kouame and Edu might not be healthy enough to do that. The smart thing would have been to get help down low. But no.

Agreed on this. Naturalized players should be able to play in the PBA as locals. Just have them take up a Fil-foreigner slot.

Hopefully, this can help lead to imports for the whole season.

          • Chot Reyes really suck in import conferences. It has been 2 years in a row where TNT underperforms in the import conference while being juggernauts in the AFC.

This is a great idea and all, with the possible high level of competition our local teams would get exposed to. I jist hope the WC-bound foreign federations (at least half of the 15) would strongly consider participating in this tournament.

This is very good for Phi basketball. I think a lot of Pinoy basketball fans wud be interested to watch/follow this tournament. Hope this will push through.

                    • By August next year, the 2023 World Cup-bound Gilas pool would already be downsized (maybe a 16-man pool by that time) which means that some pool members who won't make it to the downsized pool could now join their respective PBA mother teams for this proposed mini-tournament in August.

i agree but how many NPs do we have? Ange and JB soon. So paano, TNT gets Ange as a local and JB goes to Ginebra? tapos magic, Blatche to SMB? need to get an NP for Meralco, Magnolia, and NLEX then this will most likely have a go signal.

They can use former FSA's - those with at least 2 years of playing experience in PHL collegiate leagues - as fillers, I guess.

                              • I don’t think there would be a problem If it is an All-Filipino Conference because they are already naturalized but if they include those former FSA's then they may change it into an Open Conference instead plus additional guest team like BAD and those NBL team or team(s) from mainland China among others.
