  • I really think owners should start exploring options to make the teams self-sufficient. As long as they're treated like expensive marketing vehicles, companies can easily pull the plug if they think the losses are too much.

To be honest the PBA should've expanded to at least 16 teams at this point. But what we usually witnessed are a revolving door of franchises that enter and leave the league. It also doesn't help that, at times, there arw signs of deliberate gatekeeping against real potential competitors.

    • We're thinking of solutions to make the PBA more popular/profitable. The problem is...is the goal of the power-holders profitability?

To optimize profits, you need a free market where the goal of the participants is to make money. If it's a monopoly, then there's minimal incentive to improve the product.

Terrafirma coach Johnidel Cardel has been doing an outstanding job in so far as Al Chua & SMC big bosses are concerned.

The more Perapirma & Northport suck, the better for SMC teams.

        * No playoff appearance since 2015
        * Giving their top picks for rejected players... The last CJ Perez trade who are players involve are already gone in their line up
        * Only team that having a 20 plus losing streak in just 1 coach, who has no credentials at all
        * No plan to compete

Baka may idagdag pa kayo? That's why young prospects don't want to join PBA draft because they don't want to be in this shitty team....
A management with a better eye for development (both for PBA and international settings) and competing should buy this team. Goddamn.

        But will TerraFirma sell?

How will make money if you need to spend 200 million minimum? Free market doesn't create balance it will just make monopolies in PBA situation. Not all companies will spend 500M to win a PBA trophy. Like Alaska who can spend that kind of money but won't.

FLASH: Kuliglig whispered to me that atleast 4 teams in the PBA are reportedly up for sale.

            Totoo kaya to?

              or NLEX?

Are we ready for 5 SMC teams??? With the current state of the economy right now, I guess the PBA might just contract into 8 teams again, unless they finally allow Mascarinas to have his own PBA team (though i think he's in for a rude awakening on how expensive to maintain a competitive PBA team)

              • The PBA contracting is bad for PH basketball but the entry of foreign markets for pinoy players necessitates change. Basically no longer can poor teams keep top talent.

the only way they could maintain the 12 team structure is to lower the price tag for a pba franchise, though i doubt the board will allow it. The pandemic and inflation has hid the pba companies hard, while MPIC is feeling the enormous cost of the World Cup.

Maintaining payroll even for the empires is too costly due to the demand for pinoy players in asian leagues. They can't over pay all the blue chipppers. Seriously though, the PBA needs to revisit its income structure, from its inception until now, the league is ran like a gentleman's club.

Allow multi-owner franchise model. Why do the PBA limit the team ownership to a single entity, or in this case, to a corporation. I think having a real "CLUB" with multiple share-holders is more viable this time. It's up to the franchise holder to look for sponsors and advertisers to generate funds for the team, and it shouldnt be limited to only 1 sponsor. Drawback is that, its uniform will look heinous, plastered with brands and products. But hey, its not new. This model works in Europe, Japan and LatAm etc

Those online betting site will be the first one to have their name plastered on the jersey. LOL.

This seems to be the more doable thing. We Pinoys love basketball. I dont we will run out of secondary sponsors.

Bert Lina and Mikee Romero actually tried to do this with Burger King but PBA rejected it. Under the name Burger King Titans, Burger King, Air21 and Harbour Center were all in the jersey.

Bert Lina and Mikee Romero were the visionaries we never knew we need. LOL.

I think even before this, The Lina Group were the OG farm team.

Yeah. PBA might need to reconsider if 4 teams are actually selling right now. There are many leagues to base from. Are there leagues that dont have city based names?

KBL i think is closer to PBA with company based teams, Like Kogas ( Korea Gas), Samsung , LG. But unlike the PBA, they adapt a city/region to represent

Actually, MPBL is much closer to KBL in terms of team names.
