Yeah. Instead of scrapping the All-Filipino, why not have it as an offseason or preseason tournament with only the top 6 teams of the fused Commissioner's and Governors' Cups (which will be the regular season) qualifying? Have a double-round robin with two groups, and top 4 make the best of 3 semifinals. Final is also best of 3. So, that's 14-17 games, 6-9 in the playoffs. Ensures quality competition in that tournament, and fans will be there. Preseason or no, fans will wanna watch. Kung onti, no different from PBA regular season games anyway.

For the third conference, have a cup competition, like the other Asian leagues. Have it go side-by-side with the PBA regular season. Of course, we will have to account for the EASL.

I always have to asked the tough questions here. All Filipino 6 teams only? So the bottom teams will not do anything yet they will pay all the staff. More loses for them. No pay for contractuals and other businesses. So how will they get back those expenses. Are we sure fans will come and watch elimination games? Unless their is market research to back up that plan, its wishful thinking.

I have a bit of a short answer. Get good, and get fans. They're businesses, they should know how to market it to gain profit.

Actually, I will stick to what I had replied to you weeks ago.

            AFC as pre-season tournament
            Season proper
            Invitationals as off-season tournament

If you still asking about the stakes of this, take away the name of PBA for both AFC and invitationals, just like how Japan has Tohoku Cup and Emperor's Cup organized by B.League and JABBA.
            Attack
            defend
            Unite

May I asked have you run a business before or right now. Believe me if just making a product good will make people buy it then alot of buainess wont be bankrupt. You need more than that, cost is as important than selling out. It is not sustainable not to look at expenses.

I still don't get how a preseason is better than actual conference when their is stakes involve. Again shortening the season will lessen the income of teams. How will you compensate for that.

No, I haven't. I'm a history graduate and law student, and no inherited businesses.

Pero kasi, that's their job, they assumed the risk of expenses. Find ways to attract customers and to turn a profit.

"I still don't get how a preseason is better than actual conference when their is stakes involve."

                    - The fans as well as other teams will have a glimpse of each other after the off-season. This is their opening salvo against each other. The objective is to make a statement ahead of the season. This is the stake that I am talking about.

"Again shortening the season will lessen the income of teams."

                    - Again, you will make your season proper longer - double or triple round round robin with longer playoffs. As you said, more games, more income. The league just needs to be creative.

"How will you compensate for that."

                    - Double (22 games) or Triple (33 games) round robin eliminations
                    - 5-7-7 playoffs
                    - More on the road games (and even more during playoffs)
                    - Put the game dates one during Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, when most people are don't have work or class.
                    Attack
                    defend
                    Unite

What are your suggestions to make PBA attractive to people again and make people watch live?

Make the AFC a mid-season, 2 week tournament, do or die / knock out games. games everyday. Problem is for a 12 team league that is the PBA, you need to invite 4 more teams to make it 16. I suggest 4 of the strongest MBPL / FilBasket / Vis-Min teams be included. Divide the field into 2 brackets with 1st seed vs 8 seed, 2 vs 7, etc on 1 bracket, and the same on the other. Winner takes the AF Cup.

BTW, Emperor's Cup is mid-season. Same as other cup tournament in Europe. Pre-season tournament seems "hollow" but that's just my opinion.

For me, study how successful leagues from other countries does it. We don't have to reinvent anything. First off, I think all of them have teams that are city-representatives.

Just have the current teams adopt a city/province like "Manila Drinkers - San Miguel Beer." As of now having venues in different cities is not feasible so just keep having it at the same venues, with games in Visayas and Mindanao once in a while for special games. Metro Manila has a lot of 'transplant' population whose family originally came from other provinces, and continuous tourists from other provinces. I think worst case scenario is the attendance will be the same. But if they play their cards right, attendance should see a boost because loyalty to a province should be better than loyalty to a business product.

We are so tribal and it boggles the mind why we are not tapping into that.

Just on merchandise alone...why would I wear something that says 'Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs?" If I'm Kapampangan and it says Pampanga Hotdogs then I actually might want to have that shirt.

Start small in regionalizing the PBA. Put 1/2 of the league in Cebu ( I heard SM is building an arena there that rivals MOA) ... call it PBA South. That alone, will spark interests and creates instant rivalry with those Manila / Luzon based teams. Pero siempre, MVP and SMC should put one or 2 of their most popular teams there. Ginebra in Cebu will make the move more legit. Instant fandom.

Province-based teams with home and away games should eventually really be the goal. Lots of problems logistically though, maybe when our country has better infrastructure/economy. My proposal does not require a lot, it's basically just a name change. Over time though, hopefully the loyalty builds until we eventually really go full home and away.

You see how low attendance in elimination round. It will cost more. So logically it will reduce any sales and increase the cost.

                                How is this better?
