Oftana's a good perimeter defender, and can play from the perimeter on offense. Arwind, while a good team defender and is clutch, isn't as versatile on offense. Oftana to Arwind would be kind of a backwards evolution, given that both are similar in size.
AFAIK he was also a good post defender in college when he played the 4 spot. I think he has 3 inches on Arwind though as Arwind was measured at only 6'2.

Well if they're going to raid their farm teams might as well get everything they need?

      I don't think they're done trading yet.

yup, arwind compensates with his very long wingspan and athleticism

        • I feel Oftana might get wasted in TNT. In NLEX he is allowed to attack. With TNT lacking size he will probably play a lot of 4. In NLEX they have a 5 out on offense while TNT is DDO with the 4 at times being an abangers big or spotting outside. It would be a waste if TNT just pegs Oftana into the Troy role of purely being off the ball. Chot is not known for being creative on offense. But let's see. In Gilas Oftana was played in the 3 spot by Chot. If so, they are still missing a big.

          • Arwind had a luxury of playing with the biggest guy in the PBA. In their earlier years he was being hunted by opposing post players. Not sure how SMB compensated for that. But I think it helped that Arwind finally learned to shoot the 3 well enough to be a perfect pairing with JF. In the first few conferences it looked really ugly. I saw games where Arwind would shoot like 1 out of 9 from 3. The guy had no conscience as in kapalmuks. Then people would just forget his bad shooting because he made one in the end game.

Right? He would take a lot of bad shots he would miss but somehow he would make one when it mattered. Or make a game saving block.

My fear is that Chot might regularly play him as a 4. hhahahaha

A lot, stretch 4 are bigs that could shoot (RDO) but lacks the footspeed to play as a wing. SF are legit wings that could also play the 2 spot and defend the perimeter. I don't remember RDO defending the perimeter he is more of a inside guy.

                    • from Sayson not sure if true but WTF

A reliable source told me that in the original package, Blackwater was supposed to only get Banal and Dave Marcelo. There was no Rosario int he mix.

Trades like this treat the fans like idiots. This I think is the main problem of the PBA. Although Sayson acting as if Desiderio is worth anything or that BGR is already a stud at 40/17/63% splits is very funny, he is right that these trade justifications mock the fans. I think honesty is better. The draft exist to help indie teams, these trades exist to keep top talent inhouse.

The independent teams have almost no shot of winning. If they tank, they'll need to out tank the farm teams. They can't sign the top free agents, or even their own free agents because of course the MVP and SMC teams pay better. Even if they win the lottery the farm teams are still guaranteed to pick a very good player.

And they forgot that you're not supose to trade no. 1 picks in his rookie or 2 seasons at least in the league..

The 4 defends the paint more. Also he is not expected to drive or create for others thru drives. Oftana has good slashing skills and can defend the perimeter. But if he plays 4 more he needs to gain weight. This will slow him down.

In NLEX they are usually a 5 out. JR screens for the 4 other guys. In fact Calvin has had the go signal to drive. Their other 3s are relatively tall and versatile, Trollano, Semerad and their rook. They all can guard 4s as well as score from the perimeter. TNT on the other hand has Pogoy and Khobuntin they are not as tall and versatile. So Calvin will be stuck at 4.

                              • 3B Hoops' idea of separating the sister teams from the independent teams, but I say cut all pretenses of balance and have a ProRel system, with the sister teams in Division A and the independent teams in Division B. Bottom 2 of DivA and Top 2 of DivB fight for spots in next season's DivA, while the Top 4 of DivA will have all Best of 7 playoffs in every round OR just one game a la Super Bowl or World Series.
