If we're gonna have more than one competition, at least make it concurrent, and allow imports with no height limit in all.
League Championship is the one at the end of the season. Cup championship is a tournament style, do or die event, usually concurrent to the on-going season. It usually involves all teams from all divisions. then there is the continental championship, which is like the Champions League or Eurocup. You win them all and its called the treble

In Japan, aside from the BLeague Championship, it has the Emperor Cup for Men's and the Empress Cup for Women's.

NBA is pushing for a mid-season tournament style championship, where monetary windfall $$$ is the top prize to motivate the players. I think they are pushing for one venue, one winner take all tournament. Las Vegas is the possible venue.

The Road Warriors franchise is for sale, multiple sources told SPIN.ph.

"That's the plan," said a person with knowledge of the situation who refused to be identified due to the sensitivity of the issue. He even used the dreaded "F" word and laid bare the challenges that a farm team faces when its top assets are traded and its best player is allowed to flee to Japan.

If true, lets just hope the buyer is all-in and has clout and financial capability to compete with the likes of RSA and MVP.

plus the inflation and pandemic probably messed up MPIC finances that someone up in the hierarchy, probably in Hong Kong or Indonesia, had to pull the plug on MVP side projects. And yeah, the WC hosting made matters worse as its such a huge white elephant

Only oligarchs/tycoon that could do that would be Mascarinas (blacklisted by PBA/SBP) and the Sys (would rather focus in NU than deal with the PBA board). The current gen ayalas or even the villars are not basketball fans.

The Dennis Uy franchise might fold as the Udenna companies are currently bleeding for cash...

Hmm are we ready for a 5th SMC franchise? lols

High time a multi-owner single entity model like the ones in the NBA enter the picture. If somebody is smart enough (or dumb enough) to organize investors and form an ownership group , they can raise capitals to buy a franchise. They can "rent out" their franchise to multiple advertisers., through product placements and endorsements.

So, the EASL will now take the form of the continental championship for now. That, like all continental championships, is reserved for top teams in each league.

Instead of a three or two-conference format, I think the league should instead institute a league-cup competition, so as to give PBA teams a chance to win a domestic double.

This guy's debunking the article and dissing Homer's credibility: https://twitter.com/ByTimReynolds/st...0dTTF4YiQxsj_w

Apart from his good Gilas takes last month, Homer's not that credible. I mean, he doubted Brownlee's ability to carry Ginebra, and he blocked fans who called him out on it.

If it was up to me, I'd like for this to replace the Philippine Cup yet closely emulate the FIBA competition, wherein it would still be an all-local tournament but with guest teams from other Asian domestic leagues. Heck, I'd even invite the champions from PHL minor pro leagues, too, just to keep close to the football cup tournament's essence and to also bring it a 20 or 24-team field. The big challenge with such endeavor would be the schedule though, as most Asian pro leagues are FIBA calendar-aligned, unlike PBA na may sariling mundo and doesn't seem to care about its neighbor leagues.

                • I think it would be nice if the PBA would emulate the 2 division format used by the European leagues and the B league. I think having a division 2 or B (lower tier) would address the need for expansion and generate more jobs for players and coaches. They could also implement a rewards system of sorts by having the finalists or the champion in the lower division compete in at least the All Filipino/Phil Cup, because a demotion/promotion system would be blocked vehemently by the big money teams to protect their farm teams. But this would in turn force the hand of the farm teams to maintain a competitive line up to avoid the disgrace of losing to lower tier teams.

Sir Rick its a good idea but will pba get out of their Manila elite/polo club menatlity where they just welcome individuals who can shell 100 million to be in this "elite club"
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

And just now, Homer wrote an article about Nenad being eyed by NLEX as it's consultant...

Its more than 200 million a year. More for top teams. If you cant compete what will you be. Try to calculate how will a compny with only millions in sale compete against SMC and MVP groups

that's the thing with PBA - one team = one owner. it's better to have a team with multiple owners than the "one team, one owner" set-up. i think that NBA and NBL has this kind of set-up - there is a majority/controlling ownership and there is a minority ownership.

but who owns its PBA team? it's MVP, not JG.
