I think he played 3 games (garbage time) during the PBA bubble in clark, and was out of the lineup ever since as a UFA

true, he's a legacy player, atleast he's not occupying an active roster spot now, plus he is the bridge between the old school ginebra fans and the new gen gins fans, so marketing wise, he is still needed. Too bad Purefoods/SMC/Long Hair had a falling out with James Yap. James deserves to end his career with Magnolia

They got "poached" because they think they're unassailable and failed to see an opportunity. The farm teams should've "encourage" their players who got foreign offers to go to the highest bidder (and get compensation from the "sale" of that player in some way), instead of putting them in a proverbial cage to not hurt their imaginary pride. Really, the PBA farm teams are basically just a worse version of "seller clubs" in football/soccer. Might as well embrace it openly. Pick players with potential, develop them, then trade them to SMC, MVP, or whatever group is interested, or sell them abroad.

Also, the PBA really should stop involving itself with national team affairs, it's obvious at this point that they can't compromise. I'd rather have them turn their attention to international club competitions. Top PBA teams shouldn't be gutted to just help the national team when the previous formula is already working, they should be out there competing with other Asian clubs for regional supremacy. About time the FIBA Asia Champions Cup is treated as what it's supposed to be: the "Champions League" of Asian club basketball, not a Gilas tune-up game. That will probably solve the PBA's obsession with the 3-conference format: it shortens the season, and it makes the grandslam achievement even more prestigious.
It's been like this for PBA ever since SMC/MPIC wrested joint control over the league. Always trying hard to become the NBA of Asia with its structures and policies regarding rookie draft, trades, and free agency to show attempts to achieve parity but fails miserably most of the time. League parity is an alien concept to PBA these days.

As for the grandslam, it doesn't help that people running the league are closed-minded to the core regarding the season structure. There are now other ways to achieve a grandslam and it doesn't even have to take 10 full months to do so. If they would just look at the European model and study its feasibility, i think it's doable here. Too bad, the financial gains from national TV exposure (owing to its business structure) is just too hard to resist for those people at the top.

with the advent of livestreaming, national tv exposure is becoming less and less important these days. even big tv networks are now starting to venture in livestreaming.

Yeah, you're right. The internet of today just gave PBA an opportunity to further maximize its brand and also the member clubs' product exposure even on a global scale. I just can't wrap my head around the big wigs' decision to just play it safe and not take necessary risks.

they could have marketed their brand globally, but no, its difficult to watch the PBA on legit online platforms hahaha

Ideally, PBA teams should be self-sustaining entities, not financial burdens of their respective mother companies, the reason many teams didn't last more than 2 decades is because the financial burden on maintaining them isn't sustainable long-term. Corporate entities like URC, LTG, Sta. Lucia Realty, Pilipinas Shell, SM and Bounty Fresh have enough money to field a team but doesn't have enough financial muscle of the likes of SMC and MPIC to sustain them as consistent title contenders, unless they got lucky to draft a generational talent. That's why they fizzle out eventually. What happened to Alaska is the most tragic, so far. And I fear that Rain or Shine could be next.

in adams' case, i dont think it's a matter of developing him. its more of how he was being used in terrafirma.

We only have word from Adams camp that he is eligible. There have been no offers from B league. So I am leaning on that he is not Fiba eligible and this is all smoke from his camp.

                    • wow, Mark the Spark has retired, though no official world from him, only an announcement from CTC

“He didn’t want any fanfare. He didn’t want any retirement ceremony. We asked him,” Cone said.

what a classy way to retire, hope PBA/BGSM honors him with a jersey retirement ceremony someday

come to think of it, JJ Helterbrand didnt have a proper retirement/send off ceremony as well, they need to give them a proper ceremony, the fast and the furious carried the PBA in the 2000s

yeah, since the duo defined a generation of gin fans/pba fans, despite spending the later part of their careers in the kangkong phase of bgsm
