And they will lose a big value for their team, Greg still considered as top 5 best bigs in PBA today... losing him will be a huge blow for them... Imagine they trade Cstand (from Tautuaa) for this? They have a good wing positions in their line up but they will not having a big man, As only Rike is the tallest player from their rotation... And it will be a bad PR for them as we remember Bolick only sign for a year... Anytime Bolick will leave Northport... Northport will be a losing end here... Greg can even play for ABL as ASEAN import in other teams such as Vietnam, Malaysia, etc....
because northport has more money/resources than greggy

And here's one of the sacrifices: https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/p...-a793-20220506

If TNT finish top 2, it's either champion and 3rd place, or 2nd and 3rd placers who will be sent to the EASL. Otherwise, top 2 go to the EASL.

        • Whats up with Northport and greg?

They keep on tossing issues...and now comm willie too is involved.

          Who is telling the truth?

          • if greg has an offer in the b-leagu he should take it and leave all the pba drama behind. he will be serviceable as an asian import (if eligible) there despite his limitations. he can provide meaningful minutes to contending teams backing up foreign bigs

There are always 3 sides of the story.

One side, the other side, and the true side.

Pretty sure both camps will leave out details in their statements

Well, it is obvious, they are not getting in good terms
Northport just need to set greg free. Or sign and trade him if they want value back

if the PBA wants a 3 conference format they should just compress the season, I think I've posted this numerous times before, PBA probably the only league wherein teams only plays once a week, no back to back games, no 3-4 game week, no long road trips. Plus we only have 33 regular season games per team spread in 10 months. Anyway PBA doesn't see any value in regular season games as playoffs games are the money makers
Just my observations on your statement. B.League and NBL have only two playdate per team per week. Not really significant difference in PBA. We do have longer playoffs. 3 to 4 games a week is brutal and won't be health for players. Top teams can play upto 75 games if all their playoff games stretch to the limit.

Again think about finances also. All of the suggestions are ok but if not feasible its just an ilusyon. Having more games means more rent and operarional cost. Can these be substantiate by live attendances. May I asked will you see your team 3 times a week in live arena.
Last season the total profit is only 48 million. Split that to 12 teams, it just 4 million each. Each team budget averages 200 M. See its not viable at all at this time.

can they theoretically stop him? he's a free agent unlike kiefer ravena right? if the pba does decide to ban him he could prolly earn a 5 year max pba contract overseas in 1-2 years

I do get your point, in the end of the day, right, the PBA is a business and not a charity, they need to generate income to justify their existence to their bosses, and if the current structure is the best for the league to earn and recover from the pandemic, so be it. Anyway the PBA's primary purpose is not for basketball development, but generate income, heck thats the very reason why they bolted out of MICAA and BAP in the 1st place..

                    • Maganda naman nilaalro niya past conference tehy why play through it if there is a japan offer he can go there as it will not violate pba upc
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Believe me its not generating enough income to even breakeven the cost they spend for years now. They treat owning a PBA team as a marketing expense in financial terms. They really want to own professional team and they love basketball and winning. Players in PBA do develop, like JC, Thompson, alot of Big man 3pt shooting improves.

point taken, some of the owners are indeed operating at a loss and pure motivation is really the love for the gane (i.e. the uytengsu's, ROS ownership, and to some extent MVP)

well for one, Greg needs to secure a clearance/release from Northport and the PBA which is a standard FIBA protocol for players transferring to a foreign league.

Really? That was unexpected, afaic. Maybe they’re banking on Mamuyac and Ildefonso’s development. But I’m thinking Mocon’s asking price might be too steep now for RoS’ liking.
