Northport could also say that Greg’s asking pay is too much for them to give out or not equivalent to his playing value.

if there is only a players union, this wouldn't have happened
btw here's the link regarding Jeremy Lin not being able to sign with the Warriors/affiliate gg league team due to the lack of FIBA clearance. In this case, CBA and his team failed to clear Lin on time, on the other hand, Kiefer and BRP's respective PBA's team refused to process the clearance.

uhm going to FIBA could be dangerous, this could lead to another ban hammer

While Jeremy Lin and the Golden State reportedly agreed to terms that would have had him playing for its G-League team, Lin had to be cleared from his Chinese team the Beijing Ducks (where he played last season) through FIBA (basketball’s international governing body). It is officially called a letter of clearance, but once FIBA’s European offices closed for the weekend, getting that letter would be a challenge.

The clearance letter did not arrive before the 11 p.m. Eastern Dec. 19 deadline, so the deal fell apart.

NP/SMC probably holding Greggy Hostage until the other camp (MVP) or a foreign team would be wiling to give them what they want..ehem lucrative compensation..

Luckily Canalete is of no value for the PBA that's why he easily get to play for the taiwan league

So who’s the one that’s lying?

The “offer” sent via courier and email was only to retain my rights so I couldn’t go anywhere. It was less than half of what I was currently being paid by Northport.

This is only one incident of many strange things. Is this the way players who try to win games are rewarded in this league?

And he posted an old vid of him getting subbed out in an indound play vs Magnolia that resulted to a Calvin Abueva game winner. Very cryptic and very spicy.

Some former players even chimed in:

Ray Parks : "I hate how negotiations has to be so unnecessarily ugly ."
Chris Lutz: Smart sub, if the goal is an L

          • He is in a farm team. Does he really expext they want to win against the main team? The best thing for Greg is to go to the B league.

            • He should just outright say, I play to win and being in a farm team goes against my principles of sportsmanship.

This is exactly what happened. No way they'll let a farm team win over the mother teams. Maybe in the regular season..

                • Three-conference format again: https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/t...-a793-20220502

Surprise, surprise. A start date so close to the FIBA Asia Cup, and a 3-conference format.

                    • Its a dilema. More playoffs, bigger crowds. Even Chito Salud admitted to Mikee Reyes that they were force to go back to 3 conf format because of profits. Is there aviable solution to address this catch 22. 2 conf has alot of positive but less profit.

Is adopting a Euro-style format feasible? Main season, national cup, and a supercup (league winners vs cup winners or runners-up)? That's still three tournaments, although the supercup is usually just one game, and a cup tournament has shorter playoffs.

I'm grasping at straws here, though. If the PBA could schedule the season to be in line with the FIBA calendar, especially in main tournaments, OK sana. Kaso nga lang, look at 2017-2019. Little adjustment if ever.

                        • More than the schedule, though, I'm hoping for the All-Filipino to be a preseason tournament. Furthermore, I was hoping that whatever the format (whether 1 or 2 or 3 conferences), imports will be a part of the permanent roster for a team, and no height limits. Let teams choose bigs or wings if they wish.

Long shot, but I can dream. Guess it's just a wish.

PBA is really too allergic in adopting the FIBA calendar. Further, the league is too blinded by the success of the current finals (ticket sales and tv revenue) that they decided to stick with the age old 3 conference format, this would probably help them recoup their losses from the pandemic short term.

if the PBA wants a 3 conference format they should just compress the season, I think I've posted this numerous times before, PBA probably the only league wherein teams only plays once a week, no back to back games, no 3-4 game week, no long road trips. Plus we only have 33 regular season games per team spread in 10 months. Anyway PBA doesn't see any value in regular season games as playoffs games are the money makers

Yeah, they should keep the 5 days a week schedule. The PBA could finish in 5-6 months if they keep that, and that would allow players to have a real offseason.

And plus, I dunno if this is feasible, but maybe show games in multiple areas, play and broadcast simultaneously? That can help in compressing the PBA season. Problem would be logistics, though.
