Sadly player welfare is still alien to the PBA. It's good that there are other alternative leagues out there.

One more thing. i don't follow PBA news that often but I've read a thing or two about the Rodney Brondial issue. Maybe that's the last straw?

why take it out on the players? they are after all but employees seeking what's best for themselves and their families, plus even in the non basketball world everyone will jump at a chance to join SMC - I'm sure there's a lot of Alaska sales, marketing and even operations executives who have also jump shipped in the past to the SMC companies.

I'm sure you'll do the same thing if you were in their shoes, actually I'm sure you're doing the same thing right now in your line of work or whatever it is you do to generate income.

even the sensationalists and hypocrites hiding behind their media badges will do anything to earn as extra buck or two.

oh and isn't it the height of hypocrisy to cry foul about the PBA UFA rule but wholeheartedly embrace the right of Pinoy players to accept the multi-million peso offers of foreign leagues?

Yeah, it's their right. Right of the employee to a living wage, which is what the empires can give most of all.

The solution is really having a salary cap. Either that, or adopt the European system of buying players instead of trades. By adopting the transfer system in Europe, players can get the benefits of the empires, while their former teams are richly compensated in exchange for selling the player.
