during his mighty and ABL stints, he was lean and moves lighter. in his PBA stint, he was asked to bulk up which he did which, in turn, reduced his mobility.

Anyways, Cardel learned from that, and is now using small-ball lineups, and was recently using Adams as a wing, even during the times that Adams played the 4.
Actually, across the PBA, small ball lineups are in use, wherein the 4 is a wing, like with Anthony Semerad, Calvin Abueva, Mark Borboran, Sean Manganti, Andreas Cahilig, Glenn Khobuntin, probably Simon Camacho (hope Phoenix can develop him as a wing; he already has flashes of a handle, just needs shooting). In fact, I've been seeing 3 wings at the frontline lately, namely by RoS, NLEX, Magnolia, and sometimes Phoenix, although the 5 in all cases is the import, even if he is a wing.

Right now, the PBA hasn't exactly been providing that FIBA-type environment.

On the size, last season, it was just All-Filipino, although given the circumstances, it was hard to get imports. This season, it's All-Filipino and a height limit for imports. Also, we have three-guard lineups where the third guard ranges from 6'1"-6'2", sometimes 6'3". I can't blame the coaches for using those, because that's their best lineup. Only SFs with size AND talent can beat the third guards, and a traditional lineup with a good-sized SF will be a norm if and only if that kind of lineup wins consistently. The size problem at the 4 and 5 is why I'd been advocating for imports of unlimited height all year long, and that naturalized players should be classified as locals under the Fil-foreign limit. As for the size problem in the SF, I think that can be solved through the draft, or by 6'5"-6'6" imports playing 3 in a team with enough size at the local 4 and 5 (e.g. Brownlee with Ginebra), although this requires a surplus of starting-quality FIBA-sized bigs in the draft.

On the shooting end, we're shooting quite low (30% league average for the season), as has been the case in the PBA for the longest time. Apart from the spacing, this actually hurts our defense, as our players would get too used to not rotating to shooters without any consequences. This can hurt us internationally. This is why the Korean imports would be a welcome addition if that pushes through. They would provide shooting and force our defenders to rotate.

        Hahahahah. Yeah.

Thats why that is the normal mentality here in our country.

" Help in drives and slashes, outside shots are low percentage anyway"

I cant blame some of them, because most of the "designated shooters" are not making them pay.

The difference in outside shooting is obvious between Gilas and European Teams. Just looking at 2014 and 2019 World Cup.

This conference, we're averaging a .355 3PT attempt rate. Pretty much the same rate. Interestingly, this is similar to the KBL's .356 3PT attempt rate this season.
Judging from this, we're not exactly avoiding the 3. We're just not making them. It's not just boneheaded pull-up jumpers, it's also wide-open catch and shoot attempts. We really have to make the wide open catch-and shoot attempts and lessen the bad pullup 3-pointers, especially the contested ones.

The multi-tournament format requires a change of imports for most teams, goddamn. If there really is no choice, OK lang siguro ang multi-tournament format. However, ideally it should be two conferences at the most, and imports should be allowed for the whole season, and there should be no height limit imposed, so as to limit inconvenience in calling for imports.

Re: home and away, bubble really is more feasible at this point in time. They did have a plan (according to an article), but hope it can push through. Just build a fanbase with other teams.

Oh, man. I think teams would want a 6'3" 3-and-D combo guard. Somebody would want to get him.

Well, at least they can already play in the PBA. I hope they improved and expanded their game with the Gilas program.

So, Basically Gilas draft is kinda useless.

Anyway, Only Oftana and Heading are probably in contention for best gilas spot

Suerte played in the Manama bubble and in the King's Cup. It's Bulanadi who was on the shelf.

I'm sure they can live without the cadets (they even threatened them with a ban) but to see players under contract or with recently expired contracts jumping ship is a different story.
Well, if you wanna keep your best players, IMPROVE THE GODDAMN LEAGUE. Not with these bullshit restrictions.

Import-spiced tourney set as VisMin Cup begins life with Cris Bautista as commissioner

MANILA—Foreign players are set to invade the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup as the league's second season begins with a reinforced conference.

New league commissioner Cris Bautista confirmed on Sunday that the VisMin Cup's 2022 calendar will open with a tournament similar to the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

He then revealed that the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Reinforced Conference will begin in the second week of March and will run for a month.

Regarding the imports, Bautista said that there will be no height limit for the recruits unlike this year's PBA Governors' Cup, in which a 6'6" ceiling has been set.

Also, he said that the teams can sign up foreign reinforcements even if they did not play in the CESAFI during their college days.

"Pwede kang mag-import sa [United] States. Pagdating mo rito, walang problema," Bautista said, adding that the league will just follow the COVID-19 protocols set for incoming foreigners.

Meanwhile, Bautista also said that the field for the upcoming VisMin Cup reinforced conference is not that big.

"Ang target namin is a minimum of six teams and a maximum of eight teams," he revealed.

He then bared that some teams have confirmed their participation but kept mum on the identities of the said squads.

The format of the conference will depend on the final number of participating clubs.

Right now, Bautista is looking at two locations to hold the import-spiced event.

"Ang first venue na tinitignan namin is Zamboanga City, and then the second option is MisOr (Misamis Oriental)," Bautista revealed.

He added that he will do an ocular visit to both prospective venues before the end of February.

On whether fans get to see live action in flesh will depend on the community quarantine status of the chosen host city.

Currently, Zamboanga City and Misamis Oriental's capital, Cagayan De Oro, are under Alert Level 3, meaning only pro sports bubbles are allowed to take place.

But with active cases starting to dwindle in numbers, it is expected that by early March, both cities would be placed under Alert Level 2, which would mean fans can watch the games at a 50-percent arena limit.

Hey, PBA, take a hint. Maybe former FSAs can be considered for full-time imports.
