They need more than a Blatch 2014 WC kind of NP. They need locals to setup. But with their league having 3 imports and NP/Asian player which probably better than locals. How will they develop unless they play outside of Japan or change their import rules. Just like what China did and Korean has been doing, one import in a floor at a timeOriginally posted by Juancho View PostChina's 30+ point win over Japan wasn't that surprising, their bigs aren't slow footed giants and their wings are turning into highly athletic players (at least in Asian standards imo). Meanwhile, Japan sans Hachimura and Watanabe can only rely on naturalized players as decent bigs and they keep changing their NP but sometimes their locals are better than some of their choices. They really lack a good pool of local bigs that they can rely on against the likes of China, nothing against Matthew but its either he's in the pool because they want to poach our player and maybe develop him or they're really that desperate for bigs. Not surprising when all teams in bleague have imports playing the 4 and 5 around 90-100% of the time.Originally posted by IPC View PostYeah, China looks like they're doing something right. They're raising the level of the competition while giving their local players, especially those in an import's position, enough exposure to develop them better. Good balance naman. Same with SoKor.
I think the PBA needs to remove the height ceiling for all import conferences starting next year. As to the concern that the tall imports will eat into the playing time of our tall bigs, it won't be a concern for them if those bigs don't play center all the time and are trained to play PF as well. It's also on the coaches to teach and train their bigs to play the 4, and also on those bigs. Even with the presence of the import, you can still play like a big, since the 4 has traditionally been a big position.
That being said, I have been seeing a few 6'6"+ PBA bigs who can play the 4. Nabong, Tautuaa, Sangalang, Caperal, Erram, Troy, Kelly, Soyud, Quiñahan, Bryan Faundo, Mike Miranda, Norbert Torres, Aldrech Ramos, Justin Chua, Ben Adamos. I think they can reasonably play 4 alongside a 6'10"+ import.

Originally posted by IPC View PostAgree, they should be thinking about making the shift. It's either make a mini-tournament from April to May so as not to interfere with the FIBA Asia Cup (if the PBA still want players there), or they could extend the offseason, make it March to October, then start the fiscal year season.Attack

Originally posted by ja.he View PostI was able to watch the replay of T1 League (Kaohsiung Aquas v. Taiwan Beer Herobears). Despite of the limited minutes, the presence of Jason Brickman was felt whenever he was on the floor. He did not score much but he contributed in other aspects of the game. My plan is to watch Jordan Heading and the Taichung Suns.Originally posted by digitalsuperman View Postwait. so the issue with the gilas contract with SBP has already been resolved amicably?Originally posted by ja.he View PostI don't know. All I know is that Taichung Suns said that Heading secured FIBA clearance before he was signed with them.
“We hereby declare that the contract signed between the Taichung Suns and Jordan Heading is in compliance with the legal requirements and all comply with FIBA’s transfer-related regulations,” read the team’s statement.
This is the exact statement of Taichung. Per inquiry of the amicable settlement of this dispute, I have no idea if (1) there is and (2) how it went.Originally posted by zairex View PostIf this is true, expect no more Gilas draft going forward. Because the only reason Heading is not playing in PBA is because of agreement of SBP and PBA. Now with Heading playing in T1, this is breach of that agreement. This is just my opinion.Originally posted by IPC View PostBased on articles I read, the only term in that agreement is that the teams can add the Gilas draftees to their roster only upon release from or expiration of Gilas contract, but the teams still hold the rights to those players. I didn't read that the agreement said that you can't play abroad during your Gilas contract.
Plus, I think that Gilas draft should be conducted within the regular draft. No special round. Also, I think the middling teams (4th-9th pick range) should get the Gilas players, not the worst.

At the moment, they're basically a win-now league who only cares about finished products. No surprise given that 25 yo is still considered a rookie-age. I highly doubt they even want to change when the current system is giving them revenue pre-covid.
Honestly, I don't think the franchise system is ever going to work in this country. It's too much of a closed-system where the only ones who benefit are the members.
If we are to make reforms to our league system, it's best we take another existing league (e.g. Filbasket or MPBL) and turn it into an Open-System with promotion-relegation.GILAS WISHLIST:

To help the teams be competitive in the EASL, I think the PBA has to adjust their import rules now, and also the season.Attack
