I'm glad to be able to witness Patrimonio's very first game in the PBA, that was in 1988 All Filipino, Purefoods' second game vs Great Taste, although they lost that game by two points on Pido Jarencio's buzzer beating shot.

Alvin's first basket was a one-hander, he used just one hand to throw a shot, the crowd went frenzy.

            Alvin Patrimonio hater

I don't like him. Iyakin, pekeng peke naman luha kaya di kinuha sa showbiz.

If Alvin was a dramatic actor, James Yap is an action star (the kick and run kid)

                    Alvin's scrapes

Can anyone tell me if Alvin had other scrapes in the hardcourt?

The only incident I can recall was with Frankie Lim when both men swung at each other after a heated altercation in Game 3 of the 1990 All Filipino Finals against Alaska. Fortunately no punches were landed and the proverbial cooler heads made awat kaagad so thats why no one was thrown out.

Frankie, eventually would be a valuable teammate of Alvin in 1993 when Purefoods finally threw out the SMB albatross out of the way by winning the all-Filipino conference and paving the way for Chot Reyes' PBA coaching career.

From my memory, I have not seen Alvin engaged into dirty plays. He was always at the end of some "hard" plays resulting to cuts and bruises.

4-time PBA MVP. Its just a hard act to follow.

When talking about leadership and the "face" of the PBA, Alvin Patrimonio was the last among them, well Johnny A and the Aerial Voyager were still there upon his retirement but their popularity alone cant carry the league, I knew no one will ever take James Yap seriously nor Arwind Santos and Danny I as the main man in the PBA, its just hard to find a basketball player these days in a stature of Patrimonio.

do you still remember the advertisement of the PBA in the newspaper during the start of the 1999 season all filipino conference that features alvin patrimonio and Johnny A. ? Abarrientos wearing his alaska jersey while patrimonio removing his centennial team jersey showing that he is ready now to play for his mother team Purefoods. And the slogan says " Lumaban para sa bayan, ngayon lalaban para sa bayan ng mga superstar".

hopefully, the Pba can do this again if the Smart gilas team w/ PBA reinforcements will enter the semis of the 2011 fiba asia championships but of course with a different slogan.

                          trans:
