Behdad Sami: 1st Iranian pro in the US

Behdad Sami in Portugal - Nov 2, 2010 (by Mohammad Ahmadi)
Guifoes just signed iranian/american point guard Behdad Sami (183-G-86, college: Linn Benton CC),he is a 6'0, 24 years old iranian and american guard that just recently played in the ABA for San Diego Surf.

Behdad is a 6'0, 24 year old iranian american guard that just recently played in the ABA for the San Diego Surf. He can play the combo guard but mainly plays point guard. He is strong physically and uses his body great, real fast guard, likes to handle the ball.
Previously played in many leagues around the world such as the ABA, Romania, Turkey, Qatar, and also in the NBA D-league camp. He will try to prove this year in a good league that Guifoes can compete well in the Proliga. Behdad was the first Iranian basketball player to play pro in the USA and now is the first to play in Portugal history.

i thought Hamed haddadi is the 1st iranian player to play Pro in U.S.A.?

So Behdad Sami has signed with Guifões in the Proliga, Portugal's 2nd Division. This isn't particularly impressive i'm sure he could have done better if he was a decent baller. All the best to him none the less but I don't particularly look at him as a NT prospect.

@ ultimate_baller24 - hamed is my boy but when i played in the ABA back in 2007, it made me officially the first to play pro at any level in the US.

@ princeofpersia - i agree, the proliga is not the best league in europe but at the end of the day, its still a respectable league IN europe. . . the opportunity to get into a top league in spain or my foot in the nba next year will depend on what i do here in portugal which is why i took the job for the opportunity, obviously I could have signed with a division 1 team somewhere else. . .about me being on the NT, i respect every1's opinion, u dont think im a "particular prospect" and i cant change your view nor do i care too, at the end of the day, i let my game do the talking

Behdad, give us a little inside about whats going on with Guifoes and whats the reason you are struggling with your shot this season.

I really wish I had an answer or excuse but they are simply not falling. If you watch the full game tape you will see that over 90% of my shots are uncontested and im literally pulling off every shot that I want or plan but they just are not falling. . .hit a huge rut the first half of the season, i have a great feeling the second half will be much different tho, i shoot everyday, in practice everything falls, warm ups are good, even when i shoot in the game it feels great when i release, they just have not fallen

Thank you for being honest. Coach gives you a lot of time on the court and shows that he has the faith. Good luck for the seoncd half of the season!

Sami to leave Guifoes Sports Club

Due to undisclosed reasons regarding visa status, the Guifoes Sport Clube and Behdad Sami (183-G-86, college: Linn Benton CC) reached an agreement for him to be released from his contract and return to the USA. There are only 5 official games left in the regular season, which cuts his stay 1 month short. Behdad is now under no contract and is an available free agent (USA Passport).

I was sad to hear the news regarding my visa situation. I wish the Guifoes organization and players nothing but the best. I will be rooting for them in these last 5 games in hopes for a push into the playoff run. I will miss everyone and I thank everyone from the organization, the players and the city for taking me in and the hospitality I received. Behdad Sami

The Guifoes next scheduled game will be on March 19 against 4th ranked Terceira Basket.

I was really rooting for Behdad but unfortunately his stats are really bad.
But I will still keep rooting for him.
                          Go Behdad!!
