population is not an excuse to naturalize more than the number allowed by FIBA. it's a shame, hongkong and singapore has a representation even though they also have a small land area. how bout Taiwan, they have a good basketball program too. it's a shame since the President of FIBA hails from Qatar yet the naturalization of player is not regulated.
It's ironic to see limited efforts from players with maximum salary.
I wish they would apply "sabermetrics" in those financially challenged PBA teams to acquire players who are value for their money.

Sorry I meant 250,000 Qataris not 25,000 my fault. And that is in the whole country, which includes the bedouin tribes living in the middle of no where. Karim bro, please open your mind and think here. Thankfully Lebanon has a big population, so you don't know this problem. If you look at the athletics in Qatar only a small percentage have Qataris in them. Look at the soccer team, bball team, chess etc... there are "some" qataris but mostly people from outside who were either born in Qatar or lived a while and obtained citizenship. Please remember Qatar is still newer than all of your countries. I am defending Qatar in respect to this subject because it is true...they need help in their population that is why many people get citizenship. Imagine almost every company you go to there are less Qataris...

The only way to do something is either give more passports, make all Qataris have sex with each other for more babies, or start creating humans from scientists.....You tell me, what should they do?

they should participate with the teams they can make and build their way up during the years WITH QATARIS.....Lebanon dont naturalize players and change their names wen they go to WBC even though their population is 4 million and other european countries is over 100 million.....so the population is not really an issue here....Lebanon play good games against China even though we are 4M and they are a 1.4B........

actually if i we're your nation's leader, i would choose the no. 2!!! let them have sex and produce babies... say a family with 5 children gets benefit from the government, free education, healthcare, food supplies.... my 2 cents

It will take time to make the population bigger. Years and years. The one good thing the Qataris are doing is trying to make the next generation of athletes all Qatari. Now on the youth teams for soccer, bball, handball etc they are Qatari. Slowly they will enter the first teams. Qatar naturalized players to have a big start in the world of sports. I don't agree with this behavior, but for Qatar's case, I cannot blame them.

isn't it that under FIBA rules, a national team may suit up only one naturalized player.

                  what happened to Qatar?
if they're going to naturalize another ex-NBA player, does that mean that their foreign line-up is not considered "naturalized" and up to this point they still don't have a naturalized player so their looking for one?

yes exactly qatar get away with wat they do cuz they naturalize tall african losers who noone has evidence that their name has been changed and if they are allowed to naturalize 1 player the ex nba would be that player , if they could get away with naturalizing any player they would naturalize stronger players probably from europe or ex nba players since they have money to pay them but this would be hard to get away with thats why they naturalize these africans , it has nothing to do with the fact that these africans have been living in qatar and thats why they naturalize them which is wat bobo is saying , its about noone knowing their real names and they find them tall so they get them to play for the team , a low team like qatar does not worry about who lives in qatar they only care about winning which again really i dont understand cuz if lebanon naturalize 12 players and let them play , i wouldnt even watch games for them but from qatars game u can know they barely have any fans , in 2005 asian championship in qatar the lebanese fans were more than the qatari at the semi final and in the 2006 asian games in qatar there was barely any fans due to the fact that people only care to watch their country play not a bunch of africans playing for money the people are not that naive , bobo is probably qatar,s only true loyal fan......

does that mean that nobody has proof that those Qatar NT players changed their names? that's a big mystery for Asian Basketball, how I wonder what the FIBA President Sheik Saud Bin Ali Al-Thani did to eradicate suspicion among fellow FIBA Asia Executive Members upon his beloved Qatar NT

@ Karim - you are right, there should be only one naturalized player. Qatar found a "hole" in the FIBA rules system and they're using it somehow. And no I am not the biggst fan I wouldn't consider myself a fan at all.

@ Saints - Maybe Qatari Fiba president = more money for Fiba? In this case no one will say nothing against Qatar.

so you have a theory that the Qatari FIBA President is financing FIBA in some ways that's why they manage not to be investigated or whatsoever.
poor basketball, let's just wait for Qatar to win in Asian Championship or somewhere here in Asia, for sure, many will react, and they won't go any further

no man if there should be any reaction now is the time cuz this is the ONLY chance for ALL the teams to go to the olympics since china is already there this year and this team qatar , excluding china since they wont be any factor this year finsihed behind lebanon in 2005 asian championship and on top of all the other teams in last year,s asian games so they are a big threat and one of the strong contendors to win this year,s asia championship i dont care if lebanon dont win it i just dont want qatar to win it and it would be even worse if qatar wins lebanon in the final , it would mean that lebanon didnt go to the olympics cuz of a team that shouldnt be here in the first place........im sure everyone in this forum except bobo agrees with me on what i just said like the pinoys here would also be mad if they lost against qatar in the final , same goes for every team in asia.........

well, I really don't know what's up with Qatar, nobody's complaining among the executive members of FIBA Asia.. and it sucks
