The WABA League this year is much different and more difficult: Salameh

BEIRUT, Lebanon (WABA League): Al Riyadi Aramex is a team on the move driven by ambition and backed by determination.

The Jordanian side failed to go past the quarterfinals and also faltered in the Jordanian qualifier for the 23rd FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Manila. But a year later, coach Motassem Salameh believes the team is more than determined to make amends for those losses.

“We will try our best to reach the finals,” Salameh told this website on the eve of the Group A competition starting on Wednesday.

      Excerpts

What is the main difference as far as Aramex is concerned between last year’s WABA League and this year?

This year our preparations began early and we have also bolstered our roster by filling up some key positions.

Also the chemistry between the coach and the players is great as the players have all got used to the system.

Overall, we are a lot more confident than last year.

How much will you miss Sani Sakakini (who now plays Qingdao DS in the CBA)? How do you plan to compensate?

Sakakini is a very great player – attitude-wise as also a very hard worker. He had a strong body with excellent post moves. He was hard on defense. So for sure, we miss him as our scoring machine.

And to compensate that we added our national team star Ayman Idais. Plus we have Ahmad Obeid who played with Arena last year to help us on low post position.

What is your target for the WABA League this year?

The WABA League this year is much different and more difficult. We are going to compete and win and try our best to reach the finals.

What is your prediction for the Round 1 in Beirut?

Our aim is nothing less than fighting for 1st place in the group although the group has such big teams such as Al Riyadi Beirut and Petrochimi.

      Any other comment?

We miss Saif Amer our point guard and leader this season because of his ACL injury. It is difficult for us without him, but we have former national team point guard Fadi Saqqa and we all hope we will gain his experience in filling Saif’s gap.

Abbas & Daghlas to take part in CBA All-Star 2012 - Feb 17, 2012 (by Omar Shafaamri)

After a great Season , Jordan National Team and CBA Chinese League Stars Abbas Zaid (203-F-83) & Daghles Osama (198-G-79, college: Midwestern St.) will take part in the CBA All-Star 2012 which will be held this Weekend in China. Abbas was chosen in the Southern All-Star Team while Daghlas will compete in the Skills Challenge.

Abbas Zaid who topped the CBA League in Rebounds with an average of 14.9 Rebounds per Game had a short interview with the Chinese Media expressing his pleasure spending three Successful Seasons in China and looking forward to lead his Team Fujian XX in the Playoffs Round against Titleholder Gunagdong in a very tough Duel. Abbas will be part in the Game of Northern/Southern All-Star Teams along with only 5 American Imports and the rest 18will be Chinese.

Sam Daghlas had another great Season leading the League in Assists for the 2nd consecutive season with 17 Pts per Game but those Efforts went in Vain as his Team Jilin Northeast Tigers failed to reach the Playoffs, Sam had unserious talks with Orthodoxi club to join them after China along with some other offers in the Area.

Starting from 2012/2013 Season the Asian Player Rule will be 90% canceled in China and this would decrease the Chance of seeing both stars next season but Abbas aspires to play in Europe or any other high level league if he don't have the chance to play in China next season as Chinese Clubs prefers American Stars over any other Import.

              CBA All-Star 2012 (Sunday 19th February 13:00 Amman Time)
