  • [1/4 Final] Iran - Korea

In a classic rematch of the 2014 Asian Games Final, Iran takes on Korea as both teams had their own struggles in the group stages.

Iran cruised to easy wins in Group E until their shock defeat to the Philippines on the 5th day of the tournament. Korea on the other hand, suffered a comeback loss to China and an upset loss to Qatar in Group F.

Korea never really had any success against Iran in FIBA-Asia, although they have snatched the gold medal from Iran in the Asiad last year.

The ability of both teams to adjust to adversity will be tested in this game.

iran should take this as a compliment because this is how china treat its rivals.

, In an interview with Iranian papers the team's supervisor, Mehran Sarreshteh, was rather unhappy with the game organizers planning and schedules. He says that our buses have been leaving the hotel 2 hours before each game, but we later found out that other teams have been leaving their hotels just 90 minutes before each game, and that normally this wouldn't be much of a problem, but since a good number of our games have been 9:30 in the morning, the players had to get up 5 am to get ready, have breakfast and leave for the court 7:30 in the morning!

one of the Iranian news outlets is saying that the Iran Korea game has been rescheduled for 10am! but on the website it still says 2:30pm.

I'm going against the flow and say that Korea will take this in a close game.

I hope the rest of Asia objects the next time China applies to host a FIBA event.

The Chinese organizers actions will only give Iran, Philippines and other teams that have had awkward game schedules more motivation when they face the hosts!

It's disappointing how inconveniencing opponents through deliberate event mismanagement is considered normal. If that really happened in 2013, I apologize. And it's not only that. We've had Wuhan, Tianjin, and Changsha; plus Asian Games in Guangzhou. I'm just saying there are other venues. And the basketball halls in Changsha were pretty small and only few travelling fan contingents bothered to make the trip.
