  • Day 1, Round 1 - Group D: Qatar - Kazakhstan

Naturalized player Jerry Johnson is back for Kazakhstan, and this team just came back from a series of tune-up games in Europe against quality competition. This alone could boost KAZ's chances of getting out of this tournament's Group of Death.

Qatar more or less has the same personnel they had in 2013 IIRC, but they have a new 19-year-old 6-7 C on the team. Nonetheless, they can still give Kazakhstan quite a challenge.

But I read from somewhere that Qatar team's average age is 28 years old, making it among the youngest team in the tournament. I think some of the many time national players of Qatar like Yaseen Mahmoud Musa, Erfan Ali Saeed, Ali Turki Ali and Daoud Musa Daoud have already retired.

I've heard Qatar lost to Barako Bull by 18 pts. in a tune-up game in Manila. I think the departure of those veteran key players will leave a big void in the team.

I see Kazakhstan beating Qatar by 15 pts.

This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

28 is still actually one of the older team averages in this competition by the way... Philippines is the oldest team with an average age of 31.. Chinese Taipei is 2nd with 30 and Qatar is tied with Japan and Jordan with an average age of 28

Pareng Khalid, do you have any idea of the current Qatar team? Who are their new (young) players in the team?

Current Qatari team still has some old faces from their previous NT's.. Most notably these 5 players: Daoud Musa, Saad Abdelrahman Ali, Khalid Suliman, Erfan Saeed, Mohamad Saleem Abdullah

They have some players who participated for the first time in the 2011 & 2013 Asian Championships and they are: Mohamad Mohamad, Abdullah Shaher Matalkeh, Khalid Abdullah Adam

And they have 2 players who are participating for the first time with the Qatari NT and they are: Abdelrahman Abdelhaleem, Mohamed Hassan Mohamed

Their naturalized player is Trey Johnson who previously played with them in the 2012 Asian Cup

I have no idea who their 12th player is as the name is not mentioned in the roster as per the official website

I see, then. So this Qatar team has new parts, then. Great. That means KAZ has the edge.

              Thanks pareng Khalid.

I remember Qatar having this young shooting guard named Abdulrahman Saad, who is of Egyptian descent, who was Qatar's No. 1 player in last year's FIBA-asia U-18 Youth Championship. That kid is such a great scorer standing around 6-3. Perhaps that player is now with the senior team
