great game for team pilipinas. sri lanka is fairly weak for Fiba Asia. Let's expect tougher competitions in the next few games. If we fail against japan and korea, then let's cherish our victory today. This may be it hehe. Go Philippines!
why were the players from the 2007 RP team changed like jimmy alapag and caguoi ? they were more talented and had much more fire power and ur centers have awful bodies ...taulava looks fat and out of shape and japeth looks like he hasnt eaten in a month .....this rp team doesnt look good ...when i saw them in 2007 i thought that RP was on the rise by keeping the players they had but getting more fil-ams maybe tall 1s and naturalizing a center but RP has taken a step back from 2007 ...they were maybe the 5th or 6th best team in 2007 , now their definitely not top 8 and their maximum potentiol is maybe getting to the 1/8 finals definitely wont win the game there ......
youre right. we are not that strong compare to 2007. we lost alapag and caguioa. they were the heart and soul of the team in 2007.and if we fail again this year it is because we dont have alapag and caguioa. it wud be a miracle if we survive against lebanon or jordan. but im still hoping for the best. I STILL BELIEVE!!!
It was quite funny too during the broadcast to hear YG screaming voice during the game, yelling at the team. As I believe Dr. J said, YG is one of the most scariest and most feared men under 6 ft in the tournament
Do you guys really need over 4 pages of discussion for a game you blew out against Sri Lanka? Scary to see when the pilipins play against a top team like Korea or China, would there be 50 pages of over the top arguments?
Lol we could create any thread a 50 pages of discussion that concerns anything about RP team. That is just how we love the sport.
I agree that most Dr. J's comments of Sri Lanka (mostly in 1st half) were disrespecting. Like, they werent made for basketball and all that. But atleast he acknowledged their strength in cricket!
Powerade RP Team Pilipinas made short work of the bewildered Sri Lankans, 115-31, to wrap-up it's debut game here in Tianjin, China for the preliminary round of FIBA Asia Championships.
Jared Dilinger paved the way for the nationals with a 21 point performance and 11 rebounds. Arwind Santos was not far behind with 16 points and phenom Japeth Aguilar, Asi Taulava and Cyrus Baguio contributed with 15 points apiece. Team Pilipinas never looked back with a commanding 84-point final lead.
The Filipinos hurdled past their hapless opponents minus star James Yap, who still has yet to land in China after participating in burial services for his mother-in-law, the former President Cory Aquino.
The final score, though may have seemed like a massacre, was not reflective of the Filipinos performance specially in the initial quarters. The Pinoys struggled with several possessions and made costly turnovers in the game. Though commendable in their victory, RP Team blundered key gameplays with 14 total turnovers and made a dismal freethrow shooting with 17 out of 27 made. They also shot 31.6 percent beyond the arc making only 6 out of 19 possible attempts. Coach Yeng Guiao had to work doubly hard back to the drawing board since such statistics will be crucial against dangerous rivals Japan and Korea.
The RP cagers for their part made good work in the rebounding department, pulling down a total of 59 caroms, 22 offensive and 37 defensive rebounds. They also snatched 14 steals and dished out a total of 19 assists.
RP Team will face Japan next in the continuation of the FIBA Asia preliminaries.
