  • how to win in asia championship 2009

i will start by my team u can talk about urs
    if lebanon faced :

japan : men to men defense ,2 big players on the field ( i will go with vroman + freije)

korea : men to men defense , fast roster

jordan : zone defense, big man roster ( khatib, vroman, faris, freije),slow play work on the set offense.

phillipines : men to men defense, good set offense. try getting lots of fouls the rp players wont be able to stop our big men inside the basket

china : well i'll go with men to men defense also which i find the best defense against most of the east asian teams cause they are deadly from the arc.a good rotation( vroman, freije, faris) faris should get a purely defensive role , khatib should try to get the chinese on foul trouble + open the space for matt and vroman to score.

iran : vroman and faris are a must on the field(double team against hadadi). hadadi should be stopped inside the basket at any cost.+ we should try to put him on foul trouble again. transition defense is a must. they should not get points from fast brakes.our defense is the key to win this game+a rotation of men to men and zone.

the rest of the teams should not be a problem to the lebanese team. now feel free to add ur analysis and what strategies should ur team adopt to reach its goal in that tournament.

    hadadi doesn't require a double-team ....
the guy is not too strong on defense ...
his strength resides under the basket in offense ...

yes he is too strong on offense under the basket thats why we need to double team him using vroman+ fares.this is what i meant in my post!

man, when i re-read my replies .... i feel like i was drunk when i wrote them, hehehe

u're right ... but still 1 good defender can stop him.

I think good traps/double-teaming kamrani is the key ....

remember how we played yao ming 4 years ago? we did our best not to let him receive the ball ....

cz once these players receive the ball, u have a problem ... as long as u keep the ball away from him, he can't do a thing.

First up great topic by the thread starter.

My opinions (i am looking at the "contenders" only)

Lebanon - Force their bigs to play defense and maybe get a few fouls early to make them ineffective in the latter part of the game. Unlike the Koreans, Japanese and Taiwanese they play inside-out, it is vital that other teams pressure their guards/playmakers.

Jordan - Very athletic team, i think you'd want them to settle for the jumpers and hope they don't get into any rhythm. Their constant penetration and early attack is something to marvel at as well, force them to a grind it out game (let them use the entire 24-seconds every possession) and you'll have a better chance. (Easier said than done though.

Iran - Much like Lebanon but with a very potent inside threat in Hadadi. i thought the Memphis Grizzlies stint doubled his confidence. He feels (especially without Yao there) that he is the best big man in Asia--- and he probably is. It's either you stop Hadadi and let others score or let Hadadi score 50 points (exaggeration) and stop the other key players. It's practically picking a poison in my opinion.

China - At some point, they will miss a dominant force like Yao Ming. While playing in a good/better system than most i do think that there is pressure on the likes of Yi and the veteran Wang to step up to the plate. If you frustrate them enough i think it will spill over to their teammates and their confidence. With China, playing at home and all--- knowing their the number one team it's all about emotions/attitude really. If early in the tournament they get on a roll, it's very difficult to defeat them. But if they have their doubts, i think the relatively stronger teams will have a chance to upset them.
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

          SMALLBALL, bitches..

              Build a strong team.
              Scout the opponents.
              Hide the strength and weaknesses.
              Suprise.
              Oh come on, mamon!

                Quickest but dumbest

As we all know this does happen:

                1. Payoff the opponents shuttle bus driver so they can't make the game on time.

                2. Serve them weird foods so they'll end up in a hospital bed due to food poisoning.

If I'm not mistaken the malaysians did this to our team in the sea games. While the food poisoning incident happened in the recent jones cup.

I'm not sayin that this would happen in china but believe me dining out should be your last resort. I do travel regularly to china, the food is damn good , but you dont want to know how it is made.....
DO or DO NOT there is no TRY... yoda

A solution to this would be to bring your own cook and have a driver from your country visit Tianjin before hand and learn the roads so he can take u to the required destination on time

As you said that you've travelled to China regularly, but I doubt you have ever traveled to Tianjin before.
As an Olympic host city,Tianjin should have no problem with transportation, accomodation etc..

And I must say this city is damn beautiful.Do u know what does Tianjin means in Chinese? It means the harbour of the emperor.

                        I thought Tianjin means 天朝之津.....

I think most of the asian fans coming to Tianjing this tournament will be impressed.

The best way to stop hadadi is not double team, pressure the Iranian guards denying easy balls from getting to him, will make his efficiency null. He should also be boxed out well to deny offensive rebounds.
