for the record, nobody thought iran was going to win the 2007 fiba asia but they did. our team during that time had everything... one million dollar budget, all the best trainings, preparations, tune up games etc, but look at what happened. this time we have a team that was created last november, has only a once to twice a week of practice, only few tune up games, but composed of 8 former members of the 2007 team including the reserves. i still have faith in this team no matter what. until we see the final groupings of all the participating teams and the progress of our team right after the pba season, we can never tell. let's just remain positive... let's hope and pray that the groupings will favor us this time. i hope this time those teams that were grouped in a weaker group last fiba asia will now be put in a tough group. as of now, i can say china is the only team that is assured of qualifying to wbc while the 2 remaining slots are still up for grabs...
"its not only how long the preparation is and how many tune games that are played that matters, its also the experience of the players in playing in international games and luck with regards to the groupings." hope this time we'll get lucky with the draw... goodluck to team pilipinas!Last edited by jrb0yd; 06-07-2009, 08:00 AM.

Why worry about the Group of Death ? so we can have a better chance in advancing to the second round ?
If you truly believe that the Philppines is one of the title contenders, does it really matter who they're going to face, I'd rather say just bring it on and have them fear -the Angel of Death in Team Pilippines, sounds good ?.......Last edited by dreamwalker; 06-07-2009, 10:50 PM.

my point here is its better to face tough teams in the succeeding rounds not in the first round. what if we were grouped like let's say with iran, jordan, japan/qatar or china kazakhztan, japan/qatar... its better to worry some of these teams in the succeeding rounds...

Surprising decision - Davison quits as Qatar head coach! -
Jun 7, 2009 (by Mohammed Malas)
In a surprising decision to everyone, The American head coach of Qatar National Team Kent Davison decided to stop his career with the team and leave back to the US due to some personal issues, Former national team player Ali Fakhro will take over the team for the long FIBA Summer 2009 journey up to the FIBA Asia Championship in Tianjin, China next August.
Davison led Qatar to win the last FIBA Gulf Championship in Oman as he began to make a new team with a mixture betwen experience and youth's dynamic from around one year ago.
The new head coach Fakhro who worked with several forgein head coaches during the last few years began trainings yesterday with 14 called up players as he asked for 3 more and they're: Marzooq Abu-Sabbar A adding to the brothers Saleem Abdullah Mohammed (202-C-82) and Saleem Abdullah Malek (195-F-85).

that's why i think the most affected subzone with this new qualification system implemented is east asia
...imagine if china was not the host. only one among skor, japan, and taipei will qualify!
and to think any one of those three teams can beat half of the teams in fiba asia championships.
