  • Please read the interview with one of the European Coaches with his assesment ot Philippine Team and the Chinese:

Philippine National Team head coach Chot Reyes said recently that Manila visitor Alan Richardson of England is arranging a series of at least five games against Serbian Division I clubs in Belgrade in late June before the nationals play in the Qatar Invitationals on July 5-10 and a Manila pocket tournament on July 15-20 leading to the Tokushima joust.

Richardson said playing against rugged European players will toughen the Filipino cagers for the FIBA-Asia Championships.

"Europeans are bigger and stronger than most Asians and play a very physical game," said Richardson. "If the Filipinos can hold their own against the Serbs, it'll be easy beating teams like Qatar and Lebanon which play the international style. I think the Philippines is competitive against China but I understand coach Chot is wary of the Koreans because they're bringing in a new team."

        • I understand why my fellow countrymen are acting so proud and at times chlidish coz we haven't played internationally for 2 years now and its just that they have so much faith for our RP team.

IMO, i still worry of our chances this coming FIBA-Asia Championships although I think this is the best team that the RP has sent. I'll pray for their success. Goodluck RP team....Mabuhay!!!

S. KOrea has beaten you a couple of times already",but why are we send"B team"???because your philipines level is not enough to pk "A team"!!!
            Where is your brain???

the reason why you are sending Team B is because you dont need to play hard and win just to be eligible to play for 2008 beijing Olympics. As a host nation you are already qualified.

Your NT is avoiding to be scouted by other teams...especially Philippines... ask your coach which teams they are most weary to play against??? hehehe and you will get the answer...

Taipei is not the team to beat in asia... it's your team china... we will see you in the finals.... mark my word...

hey valdski man, i appreciate you being nationalistic, but for now, lets set aside those things in the past. lets try to concetrate and focus our attention in this years ABC. i agree with you about our achievements in the past, but i, alone cant help you on that, you see, almost everyone in the boards are in the position to disagree and discount all the facts that the Phils once became a bball power. lets hold hands, i will not leave you, in the journey.. hahaha.. iif you know what im sayin.. haha

That's what im trying to say.. we were once the best in this part of the world... i dont think the way we play basketball is inferior tha the rest of the team in asia... all we need is ample to time to assemble and train as a team. individual talent and skill wise, i believe that Philippine cagers are the most talented in asia... but basketball is a team competion... and we have players assembled in few weeks before the actual competitions... what do you expect to happen??? we dont lack the talent and the skills... we lack the time to build a team for international competitions...

Only the rules changed... the level... i guess is much the same because during the time all those who played basketball use the same rules.

im not saying that we are the best in asia nowadays...
i think your data is wrong.. we captured the gold in 1985.
as i have said... we only send Class A Teams in Asian games...
ABC and other tournaments, we sent Class C & D...
ANd these people are judging the performance of our present team from our Class C & D teams who competed in international tournament such as ABC...

dont get me wrong, but i just respect opposing NTs so much that you cant just disregard how much they could match well against our RP team. thinking that we could just beat them all is just an act of ignorance.
As i am saying here... we can beat teams like Lebanon, Japan or Qatar easily... as per my assesment of all these teams not only because i love Philipines to win. We have beaten these teams before in exhibition games with our Class A players. Eshibition games only because our Class A team from PBA were not able to join because of its own tournament schedules.

I cannot blame this peole why they look down the present Philippine Team. They have based their judgment from the previous teams we sent in international competitions which were Class C & D from PBL & MBA which are far more inferiors compared to our Class A players from PBA.

We even made good impressions to US Basketball League (USBL) a profesional basketball League in the US on how the RP NAtionals play and its talent in basketball when they played in the US soil in April 2007.

I believe that these people are misjudging our present NT. Well, as i have said... we will make a good surprise for the these teams who neglected our prowess in basketball.

Mine is a fair and square assesment... i've seen Lebanon, Qatar, Iran, japan kind of game and brand of basketball... and the way our NT is palying and preparing now... we should not have any problems beating these teams...

The team to watch out are still China and South Korea...
They have been the pain in the ass for years for Philippine Team.

Okay guys.. you want to talk about the present time of basketball???

                    1. How many times your NT entered in WOrld Basketball Championship?
                    2. How many Finals apperances you have in WBC?
                    3. How many medals your NT got in WBC?
                    4. THe highest place your NT has achieved in WBC?
                    5. Same questions goes for the Olympics competitions.

FOr the record, only ten (10) nations got medals in WBC , namely:

                    Gold-SIlver-Bronze
                    1. Yoguslavia 5 - 3 2
                    2. USA 3 3 3
                    3. Soviet Union 3 3 2
                    4. Brazil 2 2 2
                    5. Argentina 1 1 0
                    6. Russia 0 2 0
                    7.Chile 0 0 0
                    8. Philippines 0 0 1
                    9. Croatia 0 0 1
                    10. Germany 0 0 1

Where are those powerhouse and the best team in Asia you are talking about???
                    Not in the list???
may be because they are not really the best in ASIA...not yet...
The burden of proof is not on our side because we have already proven.

It's about time for this so called powerhouse to show what thy've got in basketball.

                    Good luck.

                      Lebanese..Lebanese...Lebanese....

you just learn basketball a few years back.. and we are playing basketball since its inception... Dr. james naismith himself handed the trophie to our team when we won in International Championship Tournament... i hope you know who Dr. james naismith is...hehehe...

The only player who knows basketball in the present Lebanese Team is Fahid Khatib... who cried during the tune up games last year in philippines... and he cried twice in game 1 and two.... hahaha... and he went to WBC in japan to compete losing an exhibition games against a team who that time was banned by FIBA in joining international competition such as the WBC in Japan in 2006. Where if not of the ban imposed to philippines 2 years back... we could have palyed in Japan instead of Lebanon... hehehe... lucky you Lebanese Team...

I dont regard Lebanese NT as a treat to the present Philippine NT...
                      The reason????
Because on khatib can play basketball... those spectators who have seen games between Lebanon and Phil... they call the Lebanese tean as Khatib Team... because he alone nows how to play.... hehehe... you need a dozen of khatib to match our present NT players... no kidding...
in other words... Your knowledge and skills in basketball are still young...
Yuou should have seen how our PT (point Guard) smashed the ball right to the ring... while your center and khatib had to do is to watch.... hehehe...

We will beat you in the game proper... mark my word...

The only team i really watch out very carefully and has a good chance in beating us aside from China is South Korea...

FYI, just last month bro Karim, we only not won against a NCAA Division 2 school, we also stunned a NCAA Division 1 school (Long Beach State 49ers) and an American BAsketball Association ballclub. Long Beach State 49ers is a very competitive and strong team in the NCAA Division 1. We also recently beat a selection of USBL and ABA selection team.

Height is might as they always say... but don't drag RP team just because of their height because basketball consists of so many factors..... like speed, teamwork, preparation, talent, athletic ability, heart, dedication, hardwork, etc. etc. etc.

                              • Not taking anything from the Philippines previous achievements but those are non-bearing. We might have won a lot in the past, which I am proud of, but that was half a century ago. Come on guys, let's stop NT bashing and let's start talking real basketball sense, shall we?

A few talking points we could start with....

                                1. What are your NTs strong points?
                                2. What are your NTs weaknesses?
                                3. How do you think can your NT capitalize on their strong points and minimize their weaknesses?
