My Top 4 teams still remains the same... in FIBA ASIA in Japan the standings would be...
1. Philippines
2. China
3. Lebanon
4. Japan/Lebanon/Qatar
Coach Chot is using the Fiba Champions Cup in Tehran as a decoy... this is very clear when we lost 3 outings in a row... and last game with syria is a confirmation of what could be the "true" intentions of the RP squad in that tourney...
We were able to win against USBL pro team which is one of the professional league in the US and one of the best market for import prospects for club teams in asia, autralia and europe... so i don't think we played in iran to really win a game...
But tonight Philippines will bounce back against Bahrain... and from quarter finals to finals... all guns are blazing for PHIL NT...
Why bother to win all the games when you still enter in the quarter finals with 1 win... and that win will be against bahrain game...
so Philippines will be in the quarter finals... and you will see a different type RP team squad that is if coach chot and the rest of the team will come out and play real basketball against those teams...
Let's wait and see...

We're still fresh from that 2yr suspension, and if you're a smart ass, you wouldn't point your fingers to anyone, espcially to coach chot. I, myself is a basketball coach too, and its hard for me to be criticized by people who doesnt know anything about coaching.
You don't need to be a coach to be able to have your own oppinion upon the impressions you get from the team. Even someone who hasn't been coaching may know a lot about basketball right?
I have been playing for 20 years, currently coach a team in Germany and was fortunate enough to be able to watch live games in various different countries like Philippines, USA and Europe - so I do believe I have the right to make up my own mind, even if the result may not match yours or be too optimistic regarding the current situation of the Philippine team.

I have seen them only a fiew times on tv and they certainly belong to the group of Asian countries, that have improved over the past years. Hard to say where they will finish at the Asian champs, but my feeling is that some other nations might finish ahead of them.

The problem with the Philippine basketball aside from Politics in almost all sports is that we dont have a legitimate National Team. Since the inclusion of professional players, the team was formed months before the competition and even weeks just like in the preparation of the RPteam in the 1990 Asiad coach by jaworski. After the tournament, the team were disbanded and wait another 4 years to prepare for the next competition. In that case, the cohesiveness of the team was not developed not unlike china and korea, they were together for years. Thats the disadvantage of the Philippines. Talent? We have a lot of talent the problem is being together of the team for years and also familiarity with the FIBA rules. We dont have pool of players, they just select players. We were suspended by FIBA twice due to the bickerings of the basketball leaders. We were not able to send our best players in the FIBA qualifying tournaments because the Asian games is the only commitment of the PBA were our best players play. So this time the suspension was already lifted a few months back, hopefully the leadership of the SBP will bring back the lost glory in basketball. Let us support the RPteam win or lose. Sports is the only unifying factor for all of us.
“Hindi ko na inaano ‘yun (mapasama sa pool) eh,” Santos said. “Kung susumahin mo ang buhay naming mga player, ‘san ba talaga ang first priority namin, ‘di ba? Ang first priority ko, dahil dito ko nakuha lahat ng kagandahan ng buhay ko at para sa pamilya ko, ang San Miguel. Alam naman ng lahat ‘yun. Ito ang dapat kong paglingkuran.”

I love the way filipinos brag. Yabang natin tol! (we are braggards brother!)
Originally posted by sickcurtain_16Yup, I do think also that South East asia is the weakest region of the continent in basketball, AS A GROUP. But don't look now as the Philippines is back and Business. And we really mean BUSINESS.
Good luck to our NT and good luck to all. Let's all join to show Asian Basketball Power on 8/8/8.

Originally posted by SkyWalkerNo man i didnt misunderstood you. You cant base the performance of our RP team just because were losing in a clubs tournament. RP team has yet to use some of its dreaded trapping defense, as well as their 3 guard combo offense. Those things are yet to be use since Chot and RP team is using this as a kick-off tournament. May I ask you, what are your reason when you said RP team is not doing well? Is it because were'nt winning games in this tournament?
