  • China's B team is still a 3-pt threat, yes they can shoot so don't just knock them off. Jordan? Jordan who? I won't assume they have changed much by adding some people. We'll see. Qatar is the same team as always. Lebanon, we will see. RP I don't know about, I wish them the best of luck but considering they havnt been together for a long time I wouldn't be suprised if they crash and burn.

Actually sir in that video you can't just generalize the type of play the PHI has. For me what the filipino player did is just the dirty tactics in basketball, in Filipino word: "gulang" means be physically dirty. I think it's normal for most of the teams to do that sometimes specially if the game is really important but what the chinese player did is not basketball.... it's boxing! if that's the case we really need to call Paquiao. It only shows that chinese players can't play physical type of game and it also show that the player who did that is not a sportman or not mentally mature to play.... It's really humiliating on your part, for you to show this video. tsk! tsk! just an advice next tym plz think 1st b4 posting thnx!
Mr., Just want to let you know, those are Chinese Taipei players and not the China NT players. I beleive, the vedio was captured last year when the Filipinos visited Taipei for so sort of competition.
Next time, please make sure you are get enough info. before you make your comments.

      Cheers.

      • Mr. Taipan, it would also do you well to get enough facts on the matter hehehe.

The video was taken not last year but way back in 1999, when the Iloilo Megavoltz (a second-tier club team from the now defunct MBA league) represented the Philippines in the Jones Cup. This wasn't the RP Team and yes, the Megavoltz players engaged the Taiwanese players in an ugly melee.

Shameful day for Asian basketball. But by far the ugliest melees ever in Asian basketball was that between China and Lebanon a few years ago, where not only fists but scissors were used. Hopefully, under FIBA's watchful eye, these incidents would not be repeated.

        cheers

        • Hello guys..i'm new here...just want to contribute something and share...w/ you all...
All Filipinos hope will agree..this is our time to SHINE and back in the Olympic scene...some of asian countries really didn't know the real Philippines NT...because in the past year the PBA (Philippines Basketball Association) is committed only to send its cager to the ASIAN games...while in the international competition we only send the Class C&D player mostly from the Amateur Leagues and College players...Thank to the Manny Pangilinan the President of SBP-BAP...and all basketball affiliation comes to and agreement to send its best players to any international competitions....and this is the time....I know the ASIAN neighbors don't know the stat's of our players...and that is good...for a surprise Bomb ahead of them...

          my top 4 asian team:

          1. China
          2. Philippines
          3. Korea
          4. Lebanon

(don't disregard the Chinese Taipe and Japan..they are also darkhorse in ASIA)

            • I think Lebanon so far has some sort of a top favorite to win the FIBA-Asia Championships because of their achievements in the last two years now that the Chinese are sending a junior or youth squad.

To be honest, I'm as excited as anyone else, but I'm still not sure were the Philippines should be placed if the tournament would start today. Although, the best thing is that we're finally sending the best players we can assemble.

I guess this will be a very exciting Asian Championships. And, if the tournament comes out well with less than 20 point margins on games, may be FIBA will considering of having more Asian teams to play in the Olympics next time because of the quality of Basketball we're producing.

It might sound a little odd to put Lebanon on 4th because for this team to fall on 4th or worse, I guess only a disaster or them deciding to beg off for the tournament for that to happen. I know Korea will pull something amazing since they have a different team now, but it's still tough to imagine if they'll be place higher than Lebanon. Although, the ball is round and we never now.

I would probably put China in 4th and place Lebanon at 1st. I think Philippines can place better than Korea because of a so-called motivation factor the Philippines has since not only the players, but as well as the fans who are itching to be get some sort of a revenge against the Koreans. Although, it's still tough to tell.

And if this (China, Lebanon, Korea and Philippines) would be the semi-final round, man... I think the average margin between the two games is definitely will be single digits.

                • now theres a smart guy talking.....FINALLY !!! look IF lebanon can get their best players 2gether including brian beshara and brazlilian lebanese adriano ibrahim 2gether i think they will play a strong final with philippines and i dont know who will win cuz philippines shoot the ball better and are quicker whereas lebanon are taller and more experienced and i it will be a very close game....if lebanon cant get adriano ibrahim and brian and dont prepare soon or change their new bad coach....i think philippines will beat them especially that there wont be much of any size advantage anymore , beshara(205) and adriano(208) will be missing , thats alot of height on the 3 and 4 positions , in that case i think lebanon will be placed 2nd or 3rd depending on qatar and philippines would probably win it....

Yeah, good point!!! I forgot about Qatar. I think Qatar would be able to make it in the semis considering that they still have a solid core. Japan could pull off something since they're hosting.

Karim. What happened to the old coach of the Lebanese NT? He seems to be a good coach.

just like they were in 2005 .....philippines arent in the top 16 now
Its because politics in basketball leadership thats why we were not able to send our best players in the FIBA sanctioned games. When the professional
players were allowed to play in the FIBA games, the Philippines send an all Pro team in the 1990 Beijing ASIAD and we place 2nd to China. The PBA commitment is the Asian Games thats why we were not able to send our best players in the ABC Championships which is the qualifying for the olympics and world basketball. But today it will be a different story because basketball leaders are already united and we have one common goal, to qualify for the olympics. Please not forget that the philippines has the best place ever in world basketball. Bronze Medal in the 1954 World Basketball Championships beating Italy. The members of the team were also responsible for the gold medal finished in the 1st four staging of the asian games.(1951 - 1962)

                        4. PHI

Hehehe! just joking! actually right now we really don't have any top 4 teams in asia in my own opinion.... the only power house team that regardless of any reason is China, because if your really going to base it from the past and present times their are the team to beat. But the real story here is not about china, because we are really talking about of who's going to qualify aside china. We all know that china have already qualify in the olympics so if I'm going to pick my 4 teams with no specific order I would say Korea,Lebanon,Japan and maybe Qatar. I'll place the PHI as a dark horse considering we've been out for 2yrs but I think we are the most dangerous team. Also in the list our Chinese Taipei, Jordan, Syria and Kazakshtan. Well guys all of our opinions will be put to the test in this coming Champions Cup. I wish that whoever emerges as the champion country will really be deserving. Anyway it's really doesn't matter who win but who will qualify right?
                        Right!!! agree..

Joe Devance will be playing in the PBL soon. I read in the papers last week that he was in the U.S. taking care of his dad. He will be joining Toyota-Balintawak within the month.

Still, I wonder where Rob Reyes is. He'll be a potential 1st-rounder if ever he chose to stick to Harbour and apply for this year's draft.

they were supposed to be among the top picks along with Kelly Williams, but the two backed-out coz their papers aint complete... They did well in the PBL winning championships... I just hope they'll be back this year and hope they do play for RP team someday.

Forumers from the Philippines name their team as number 2, but the national team can't even get past South Korea.

Forumers from Lebanon name their team as number 2, but their team can't even fare better than Chinese Taipei in recent tournaments.

RP team shld be considered as a dark horse but certainly not in the top 4 at the moment.China, qatar, lebanon and south korea i think are in the top 4.but shld the current RP Team will be kept intact with minor additions, this team will a force to reckoned with in asia in the next 2 to 3 years time.
