    • The SEABA Game

A breeze or an ambush awaits SMC-Team Philippines in Ratchaburi, Thailand as it plays the host team, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore in a single-round, no-final competition to dispute the SEABA men's championship from May 24-28.

The Nationals take opening-day bye on the 24th, then tackle Singapore on the 25th, Malaysia on the 26th, Indonesia on the 27th and Thailand on the 28th.

The team with the best record after the single round robin is automatically declared the champion. Ties will be resolved by the quotient system of tiebreak.

"The schedule and the format of competition obviously were designed to favor the host team. They scheduled us to play four straight games with them as our final opponent. They're looking for an ambush," said PBA commissioner Noli Eala.

PBA coaches say the host apparently is thinking that's the best way to upset the Philippines, resigned to the fact that they can't beat the Filipinos twice.

But coach Junel Baculi, a new addition to coach Chot Reyes' staff, believes there's no way the all-pro RP team can be beaten in SEABA.

The Nationals can't afford not to win the SEABA championship as it serves as the qualifier among Southeast Asian countries for the FIBA-Asia championship in Tokoshima, Japan in July.

The team warms up for SEABA and the FIBA-Asia Championship as it leaves tomorrow for Tehran, Iran for the Fiba-Asia Champions Cup from May 12-22.

"We're not going to Tehran to win. We're going there to get better," said RP team coach Chot Reyes on his decision not to exercise their right to play with an import in the Champions Cup.

Twelfth man Enrico Villanueva, accompanied by RP team assistant coach Nash Racela, follows the RP team in Tehran right after Red Bull's out-of-town game in Cebu versus San Miguel Beer Saturday.

Right after the Red Bull-San Miguel game, Villanueva takes the 9:30 p.m. Cebu Pacific flight to Manila then tries to catch the 12:20 a.m. Emirates Air to Tehran.

Still uncertain is Villanueva's stint in the SEABA men's championship.

The Thais, who have reportedly recruited two Thai-American players, could well offer the toughest challenge to the Nationals in SEABA. They didn't expose their recruits as they opted not to play in the recent SEABA Champions Cup in Jakarta.

THis news is one of the reason I put Korea on top of the other team in asia. I guess korea will surprise its opponents in the asian games with their new players. Korea knows how to play good basketball, and they love surprises... they have proven it a couple of times before against china and philippines...

I am worried about the koreans because they know how to scout the philippine team... and they are really prepared to play against us. Korea can beat Lebanon, japan and Qatar... and even philippines with their new team. They always been an explosive team and i am expecting them to be a lot more better this coming Fiba asia champ. But before that, the SEABA which is the qualifying for the FIBA ASIA.

we were banned by FIBA for 2 years... how do you expect us to play??? misinformed or no information at all????

          Where is your brain???

the reason why you are sending Team B is because you dont need to play hard and win just to be eligible to play for 2008 beijing Olympics. As a host nation you are already qualified.

Your NT is avoiding to be scouted by other teams...especially Philippines... ask your coach which teams they are most weary to play against??? hehehe and you will get the answer...

Chinese Teipei is good but not good enough to paly our TEAM A... remember that we were sending Team C & D in most of the international competitions where we were in the losing end...

Taipei is not the team to beat in asia... it's your team china... we will see you in the finals.... mark my word...

YOur team has nothing to brag... yours is up to asia only...
          Please don‘t too arrogant vlaski,please look at this video,is this your“Basketball power”??Funny!~

How do you beat us, to depend on dirty petty action???

Thank you for showing your "uncontrolled behaviour" in court.

The referee could have called a foul against our player but look what your Big Zebra looking guy did to our player... a traitor's act... what a loser... just because of a could have been fouled backs out... he put his damn fist to this guy...fighting behind his back is not something to be proud of CHINA TEAM.

Though i don't know these guys... i mean our players... i guess they are from Class C or D team...

Don't be too sensitive when i ask for your achievements in World Basketball...
            Just show something else... okay???

Ohhhh may be you've got nothing to show off... so you picked this video instead hoping to put us in shame... but the video tells us otherwise...hehehe... oh man... sometimes you have to use your brain...

            Hope next time you do.....hehehehe....

            • UPDATE

everybody just stay frosty before the mods come in and have to settle this we don't want flagrant's going into each others name.

moving along i have no idea who these guys are, is this a university/college game of asia?

cant assume right away if the ref did call a foul or not, i hope so. this is what im talking about though in terms of playing physical pesty defense, normally most asia teams dont like the rough play of being in the paint. if the philippines team want to succeed i see no reason as to why they shouldnt play this way; if anything it will disturb the opposing team and make them lose some steam in that case the ref would then have no other solution but to call a foul on the team who first threw the punch.

if you look @ the NBA some of the best players have tricks up there sleeves like no other. john stockton was probably one of the cheapest players out there in dirty plays, lets not even begin with dennis rodman and how he got into people's heads, or currently bruce bowen.

the game is not only about physical and athletic abilities but mental toughness; you break the mental toughness rest goes down with it.

hey china team is that chinese tea from mainland or is this taiwan, just wondering?

im going to go off topic here for a moment just a brief moment in terms of rough physical play; if you look @ intl competitions teams like Team USA, as well as others who play physical and don't mind it is it however because that the US shares the title as being a 1st world power in which the Chinese natl team is humble to do something like this, when compared to a developing country such as the Philippines. example would be chen jianghua when he went into the reebok abcd camp was it? i believe he twisted or got some slight basketball injury to his ankles(nothing serious @ all he continued to play) and also had an icepack over his forehead if i remember correctly but did nothing in terms of physical action. now it could be 1. because the guys in the US are bigger and the US holds a superpower status AND/OR 2. chen has a higher mental toughness than the guy you saw who threw the punch. you guys can debate about this so long as it doesnt go off topic it starts the subthread into a flame war totally baseless on what the original thread was meant to be.

here you can see from 50 seconds to 1 minute of chen jianghua and the commentator stating he took some physical play which the chinese are not used to. AMAZINGLY though he didnt react in terms of physical violence but continued to punish those man handling him with better moves.

              • The real Philippine secret "A" NT revealed

Just too cool things down, and since the elections for the 12 hottest Senate seats are here again (to fool the people), an interesting "news" just came in.

According to a source, while the current Philippine NT that's headed for Iran has the objective of playing the 2008 Beijing Olympics, there is another Philippine "A" Team currently brewing underground and secretly undergoing a strenuous and rigid big man training for the 2012 London Olympics!!!

They may be the oldest team ever to be formed, but the trainors claim that these players will never be the same old slow giants anymore. The future tall, quick, mobile shooting "A" Team 12-man line up was revealed:

                -- rAul dillo (san juan knights/MBA) - 7'3" Center
-- edwArd joseph feihl (welcoat dragons/PBA)- 7'1" Center
                -- Andy seigle (ginebra kings/PBA) - 6'10" Center/Forward

                -- john Arigo (coca-cola tigers/PBA) - 6'5" Guard
                and......
-- michAel "topex" robinson (red bull barakos/PBA) - 5'6" Guard

                      • my top 4 teams

my top 4 team will be:

                        1. PHI
                        2. PHI
                        3. PHI
                        4. PHI

Hehehe! just joking! actually right now we really don't have any top 4 teams in asia in my own opinion.... the only power house team that regardless of any reason is China, because if your really going to base it from the past and present times their are the team to beat. But the real story here is not about china, because we are really talking about of who's going to qualify aside china. We all know that china have already qualify in the olympics so if I'm going to pick my 4 teams with no specific order I would say Korea,Lebanon,Japan and maybe Qatar. I'll place the PHI as a dark horse considering we've been out for 2yrs but I think we are the most dangerous team. Also in the list our Chinese Taipei, Jordan, Syria and Kazakshtan. Well guys all of our opinions will be put to the test in this coming Champions Cup. I wish that whoever emerges as the champion country will really be deserving. Anyway it's really doesn't matter who win but who will qualify right?

                          • just being physical.... nothing personal

                            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually sir in that video you can't just generalize the type of play the PHI has. For me what the filipino player did is just the dirty tactics in basketball, in Filipino word: "gulang" means be physically dirty. I think it's normal for most of the teams to do that sometimes specially if the game is really important but what the chinese player did is not basketball.... it's boxing! if that's the case we really need to call Paquiao. It only shows that chinese players can't play physical type of game and it also show that the player who did that is not a sportman or not mentally mature to play.... It's really humiliating on your part, for you to show this video. tsk! tsk! just an advice next tym plz think 1st b4 posting thnx!
