I have a friend of mine who is interested in playing in China. His name is Banil "Benny" Koochoie..He has played in Iran the past two seasons as a local player. He was born in Iran and is a National Team Level player but for some odd reason the I.R Iranian Basketball Federation will not give him an oppurtunity to participate. All of the respected coaches and players in Iran, from what he tells me are shocked that he was not invited to help the National Team. He led his club in scoring and minutes last season avg 22ppg and 38minutes per game for the 3rd place Superleague contenders Petrochimi. My question is, can someone get him to the CBA this season either as an Asian or Foreigner? here are some links I found on him, check them out and let me know what you guys think. Thanks

I think it is very hard for him to play CBA this season , because the clubs who could sign Asian import are not allowwed to changed the Asian import as CBA's rules . So he would not be allowwed join CBA as Asian import until next season.

If he plan to play in CBA as Asian import next season , I suggest he play Chinese NBL first(which will start next Summer)just like Sani Sakakini who played in NBL this Summer and now playing in CBA.

Update: I checked his profile and found that he is dual citizenship in U.S.A & Iran , so I'm sorry to say that he can't play in CBA as Asian import , so he just could play in CBA as an normal import.

Ok thanks for the information. But how does Sam Daghlas and Zeta Boss or Voss im not sure what his name is, get to play as Asian Players when they both have Dual Citizenship in Jordan and America? and also Sam played college basketball in the United States so it doesnt make any sense to me, but Thanks for the help. I guess he will have to wait until summer league NBL.

Sam Daghlas is known that he has USA's Green Card but no passport .
And there is no Zeta , do you mean Zaid Abbaas ? he has dual citizenship in Jordan and Palestine , all country are in Asian ,so he can be signed as Asian Import .
But like Marcus Douthit who has dual citizenship in Philippine and USA is sigend as Normal Import .

I find it hard to believe that he has only a green card when he was born in San Diego,CA.Thats impossible because he was born in the states just like me, were automatically become citizens. But yea I thought his name was Zeta haha but its Zaid Abbaas. Well I appreciate the help. My friend Benny was born in Iran so how is he not considered Asian? he played in Iran for 2 seasons as a local player.if you google his name you will see that he participated with Iran in Serbia.Sam was born in the US and played the same level of college basketball as Benny. But the other guys I can totally understand. Well if you guys think that he cannot play as an Asian Import thats your view on it, we will see what happens in the future. Did you have a chance to read his resume? and see his videos? you think he can play as a foreigner in the CBA this season?

I watched his videos, he may be available as an Asian import, because teams don't expect too much from an Asian players. But for a normal import he still has a long way to go. CBA teams is more appreciate the players who has NBA experiences or has played in Euroleage.

Sam Daghlas said he was born in Jordan and just go to USA when he was young.

Come back to Benny Koochoie , as a CBA fan I don't think he could be signed as a normal import in CBA , especially he is a guard . The normal imports in CBA are allmost have played in NBA.

                • Is there some sort of clear definition of an Asian import?

I understand it's not right for a "naturalized" American with an Asian passport (like Marcus Douthit) to be considered as an Asian import because the guy is literally an American.

But if someone who was actually born in Asia (of Asian heritage), but received dual-citizenship later from a non-Asian country, he should still be considered eligible as an Asian import to play in the CBA. Some of the central/middle east Asian countries are unstable so people immigrate to another country for various reasons.

I believe an actual “Asian person", not a naturalized American, should still qualify as an Asian import to play in the CBA as long as he was born in Asia and his "first" nationality is of an Asian country. An American passport should have had no effect on his basketball skills, it is not an advantage over another team.

Obviously an "American kid" born in Asia on some US military base would not qualify because he is not "Asian".

As long as he is of Asian heritage and was born in Asia should be fine. I am not sure how the CBA can block this as their policy basically states no "naturalized" asians.

As I know , the Asian import in CBA means who has no passport outside asian countries never .

Is it possible Megke Bateer is getting a higher salary than players like Wang Zhizhi and Sun Yue (Not including Yi Jianlian since he just came to the CBA when there was the NBA lockout)

Yes,Bateer's team is a very rich club,I think he would be paid 800k-1000k per year , and Wang Zhizhi is not to much paid, and Sun Yue is not play in cba
