Gibson returns to Gold Coast
Following much speculation, Australian Boomers point guard Adam Gibson has re-signed with the Gold Coast Blaze for the next two seasons.
The Blaze are incredibly happy to have secured Gibson, whose value in the NBL has been made evident in past weeks, as multiple clubs have vied for his attention.
Blaze CEO Paul Pamenter believes Gibson is key to future success for the club.
“We made no secret that Adam was our primary focus,” said Pamenter.
“It’s no coincidence he has won two Championship rings already, despite only being 24 years of age. Knowing that we have one of the best point guards in the country, we can now concentrate on acquiring the right import mix to help complement the rest of the squad.”
Six years into his NBL career and three years into his time with the Blaze, Gibson is eagerly anticipating Season 2011-12 with a very similar looking outfit to last season.
“I’m very happy to be back with the Blaze this year,” said Gibson.
“We’ve got a really good bunch of guys here at the moment and I wanted to come back and be a part of that again.”
“I think we definitely have a shot at the championship with the line-up we’ve got.”
Gibson is also looking forward to playing under Blaze Head Coach Joey Wright, the man who recruited him into the NBL six years ago.
“We know each other pretty well by now. It’s rare to be able to play for the same coach for so long so I’m definitely happy to be back again.”
Gibson has been a standout for the club over the past two seasons, taking out the Blaze MVP Award in Season 2009-10, and Blaze Best Defensive Player in Season 2010-11.
He will be the eighth returning player for the club.
