smb winless at recent taipei tourney

you know why?
1. the team is not there to win
2. they were there just to participate(out of pakikisama)
3. if they won at least 1 game,chot reyes won't be able to coach the RP team back home against Lebanon which is more important to us since we haven't fought with the Lebanese team yet
4. chot reyes used that competition to see how his players do the next PBA conference since he will be the new coach of that team.
5. they don't like injuries...
6. Brunei cup is the one his preparing to and his the coach also...conflict of schedule will kill him bec there's no time for him to choose players and there'll be no time to practice also

The Perth Wildcats are three-from-three in Taiwan after initially struggling against the San Miguel Beermen from the Philippines' PBA on Monday night.
The Cats 89-70 win in the Asian Professional Basketball competition looked anything but certain after a horrible first term, but the team showed its true character to fight back and get the points.

Guards Steve Leven and Darren Brooks top-scored with 19 points each, with Leven also having six assists.

Coach Scott Fisher said it was the best he’d seen from the tattooed guard.

“That’s the best I’ve seen Steve play, ever,” he said. “What impressed me most was that he did everything under control, he didn’t have to do anything at top-speed, his defence was solid, he made some good passes.

“If he can bring any of that to any games this year, that’s really exciting from what I saw.

“And Darren Brooks, I really liked the way he played tonight. He’s been a bit quiet, he’s having a hard time finding where he fits in and how we’re expecting him to play.

“I’m encouraging him to be a bit more aggressive and he got that in the second half, and if he didn’t foul out, he probably would have had 25 or 30 points tonight.”

Early poor shooting by the Cats, and a lack of desperation on the boards and in defence, combined with a return to Friday-night’s turnover rate, saw the Cats struggle in the first term. The Beermen got out to an early lead of 12-3, and at quarter-time the board showed 24-15.

Some straight-talking from the coach saw a vastly improved effort in the second quarter, and a three pointer to Ben Hunt with four minutes left in the half put the Cats ahead for the first time in the match. At half-time, the Cats’ led by 8-points (41-33) as the score for the quarter (26-9) more accurately reflected the gulf in class between the two sides.

Leven, despite a split lip, hit a purple patch in the middle of the third, dropping a couple of triples and a dunk inside two minutes, and at the last change the Cats led 67-56.

Guard Adam Caporn was sent to hospital to get a cut on the top of his head stitched.

The Cats play the Taiwan national team Tuesday night.

APB Day 3 - Taiwan NT KOs San Miguel, 105-76 - Aug. 13, 2006 - by Chris Wang
Taiwan NT turned in its best performance in the APB tournament Sunday night, knocking out San Miguel 105-76 in a game that was meaningful for 10 minutes.

Inspired by five 3-pointers from Tien Lei and Hsin An Chen (196-G/F-80), Taiwan NT opened the game with a 18-1 run over the Beermen, who couldn't find the basket and seemed uninterested all game long. The game was never close as the host led by as many as 37 points.

At one point San Miguel head coach Chot Reyes told his players they were embarrassing themsleves. But his words obviously neither pick up the players' spirit nor stop the last 30 minutes of the game from turning into garbage times.

All 11 players on Taiwan NT scored while five hit double figures. Hsin An Chen (196-G/F-80) led with 24 points, followed by Tien Lei's 16 and Lin Chi-jay's 14. Lee Chi-yi and Chou Shih-yuan had 13 points each.

Center Tsun Wen-din, who returned to Taiwan Sunday morning from Pete Newell Big Man Camp in Las Vegas, didn't play until the third quarter and had 5 points and 3 boards in 10 minutes.

In the ohter game, Perth Wildcats defeated LG Sakers 82-68 to remain undefeated at 2-0. LG is now 2-1 and tied with Taiwan NT.
