He knows he will lost his job if Vietnam loss the next game.. some of the best football managers/coaches in the world were known as strict disciplinarian but I doubt that they will resort to what Calisto did... except maybe Sir Alex (watch out for the flying boots when his pissed)...

        • I've watched the Indonesian defense. If you look carefully, they're vulnerable to counter-attacks. We'll see...

          So damn excited............>_<

              • Araneta aiming for Jakarta redemption

                16-Dec-2010
Jakarta: He was part of a Philippines team that made some unwanted history in Jakarta in 2002. But eight years on, Ian Araneta is now a veteran on a squad looking to achieve something far more positive at the same venue in the AFF Suzuki Cup.

The striker first appeared in the tournament as a 20-year-old in 2002, playing in a side that lost all four of their games at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

The lowest point came in their final game against hosts Indonesia, who needed a big win to secure a spot in the semi-finals. The net result was a 13-1 loss for the Azkals, which is the heaviest ever defeat in tournament history.

"It was a very bad day for us – it was humiliating," said Araneta, who came on as a second-half substitute when his side were already 9-0 down.

"The crowd was amazing and so noisy because they were cheering on Indonesia, who had to score at least eight goals to qualify for the semi-finals."

Thankfully for Araneta, his national side have moved on since that embarrassing setback.

Defensively strong and well organised, the Filipinos have conceded only one goal so far in this year's AFF Suzuki Cup, are unbeaten after three matches and have qualified for the semi-finals of the competition for the first time.

For Araneta, the key difference between the teams of then and now is in their organisation.

"The team that we had then and the one we have now are totally different," he explained. "Back then, the team was only organised about two months before the tournament started while the current team have been together a longer time – about a year – and we are like brothers now.

"I am very proud and happy because this team has the potential to change football in the Philippines. And for sure, we're not going to let Indonesia score 13 goals again."

                  • Tough luck for the boys in blue..but I don't feel too scared for them anymore..they can still pull it off in the 2nd leg..Phil seems to be better than than Irfan(?)..We need a healthy Caligdong in there..

Sidenote: Can I say anything about the refereeing? No red/yellow card for the intentional drop down of elbows from Okto to Anton? Home field advantage? Thank you, Martinez..

                    • if the game was played here in RP, do you think we would really get the "home" advantage?
how many pinoys will watch in manila? will it get over 2000?
                      what do you think guys?
does RP has solid football fans? or just riding the spark just to be in?

anyway there are so many things to fix and improve. i see good future in this sport..
but it will take more than a decade t be in par with the asian power teams

                              • 0-1 is a good result for the Philippines...just two years ago this result was not even thinkable. It goes to show how much the RP players have improved in quality not just in the islands but overseas. Also, its showing Simon McMenemy is star coach in the making and we should be glad that he is coaching the Philippines. There were some doubts about his age before but I think all the criticisms have gone away. A 1 goal advantage after full time in the next leg will guarentee extra time if I'm right and there, anything is possible. Philippines gotta keep their heads up and keep fighting.
It's a shame we coulnt get a home game....2000 Filipinos screaming Laban is better than 80000 against us.
