right... i did see the first half and turned off the TV when Laos scored again. it was that disappointing because they could not just get the ball passed their own half and the defending was typical, while Laos had the better chances and didn't had to defend much because our U23's kept on losing the ball. then i just happened to channel surf after dinner and saw the last goal when it was 2-2 at stoppage time. the hell i care about the last 15 minutes, i didn't see it. maybe our U23 didn't deserve to win, but someone had to do something about it... and it happened to be Beloya.

they may not be Spain, but we all know the pedigree of these boys and every game so far (save for the last minutes against Laos and East Timor), they're annoying to watch.

true, it's really annoying to watch them play without the passion that has endeared the Azkals to Filipino sports fans. Always a step too late than their man. Only Muller has impressed me so far in this SEAG but even his consistency is wanting

      • “Dan (Palami, Azkals team manager) also told me that once the stadium is finished, he is considering holding a training camp there. I think it would be a good move because the players will be staying in a retreat house run by nuns,” said Dakay.

GALAXY: Beckham puts on a show

If this is the end of David Beckham with the Galaxy, he's putting on quite an encore.

Beckham scored a sweet goal, set up another on a corner kick, saw another from a terrific cross flagged offside and nearly tallied with a midfield rocket as L.A. poured it on in Manila, romping to a 6-1 victory over the Philippines' national team on the second stop of its three-game Pacific tour.

Robbie Keane added a goal and an assist, Adam Cristman came off the bench to score a couple, playoff hero Mike Magee netted one,and Gregg Berhalter, whose playing career will close with Tuesday's friendly in Australia, converted a late penalty kick.

Beckham, who will decide after the postseason tour whether he'll re-sign with the Galaxy or head back to Europe -- almost certainly to Paris Saint-Germain -- walked off in the 76th minute to a standing ovation, trotted to the edge of the stands at Rizal Memorial Stadium and handed his jersey to boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

The Galaxy, fortunate to be ahead at halftime through Beckham in the 20th minute and Magee in the 39th, scored four second-half goals on a hot, humid evening, using an attacking pace that the Philippine players could not combat.

There was talent in the home side, especially the England-born and -bred Younghusband brothers -- Phil and James -- whose performances might be worthy of a trial back at Home Depot Center. They caused havoc along the Galaxy backline, scoring one goal and nearly creating another that would have erased L.A.'s early advantage.

Phil Younghusband twisted A.J. DeLaGarza to score from Angel Guirado's chip following a Galaxy turnover in the 41st minute. Two minutes later, James Younghusband's through ball left Carlos Alberto Martinez de Murga one-on-one with Josh Saunders, but his shot slipped past the left post.

The Galaxy nearly went ahead after 15 minutes, when Beckham noticed goalkeeper Ed Sacapaño off his line and blasted toward the net from the midfield stripe. It was a line drive that the Phillipine keeper would not have gotten to had it not been a shade high.

Beckham got his goal five minutes later on a quick counter following a Sean Franklin takeaway near the top of their box.

Franklin brought the ball out, fed it ahead to Keane, who carried it deep into Azkal territory before sending it wide to Magee on the left. Magee's first cross was blocked, so he played the rebound to Keane at the top of the box. The Irish forward laid it off softly for Beckham, who curled the ball over a diving Sacapaño toward the upper-right corner.

Magee made it 2-0 on a similar play, with Omar Gonzalez winning the ball in the back, Beckham playing it forward to Magee, who made the run through midfield, then played a quick give-and-go with Landon Donovan in the box. Magee, just above the box, fired the return into the upper-left corner.

Keane made it 3-1 two minutes into the second half, from Todd Dunivant's header off Beckham's corner kick, and Cristman deposited Beckham's best pass of the night four minutes later, but linesman Grant Rojas had his flag raised.

Cristman tallied from a Donovan feed on a counter in the 63rd, Berhalter connected from the spot in the 81st -- after a silly Anton del Rosario foul on Jovan Kirovski -- and Cristman netted the sixth in the 87th.

WORTH NOTING: Midfielder Juninho didn't dress after suffering what the team termed a minor injury early in Wednesday's win over Indonesia. ... Chris Birchall replaced Juninho in the lineup, Frankie Hejduk and Bryan Jordan got starts at outside back, and Donovan started up front, with Franklin in midfield. Donovan moved into midfield when Cristman came on at halftime. ... Every player on the tour has played, with Berhalter and rookies Ryan Thomas and Dustin McCarty coming on in the second half. ... The Philippines' substitutes included Virginian Nate Burkey and New Yorker Lexton Moy, who played NCAA Division I soccer. ... The Galaxy finish the tour Tuesday (12:30 a.m. PST) against the A-League's Melbourne Victory. Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes will televise. ... The Galaxy is 30-9-12 in all games this year, including ticketed friendlies.

To La galaxy: get the brothers for trials for next season.

                  NEIL ETHERIDGE EXCLUSIVE
                  FULHAM FC WEBSITE

Neil, would you say the 2010/11 campaign was a
                  season of progress for you?

Yes, of course! I think every year I’ve taken a step forward and this year was another step forward for me. Signing a two-year contract for me is a massive step in my career, so hopefully next year I can start to progress even more and we'll see what the future holds for me.

It must have been pleasing to be rewarded with a new contract after coming through the ranks from the Academy to the First Team squad?

Yes it was a great feeling. I think it reflected on how well I performed last season. Being more involved in the First Team did mean less reserve games for me, but the reserve games I did play in I coped with well and handled myself to the best of my ability.

How did you deal with moving up to the First Team, what was the adaptation like for you?

You have to adapt really quickly to be honest because the other guys aren’t going to hang around for you. They’ve got a job to do themselves so you’ve got to fit into the environment very quickly.

It did take time, I have to admit, but now I’m settled in and I’m hopeful that I can hit the ground running from the start of pre-season next year. Mark Schwarzer and Pascal Zuberbuhler have been unbelievable; they’ve been there, done it all and even Mark playing at his age is a great thing to aspire to really.

As the Philippines number one keeper you’ve played in front of huge crowds during recent international matches.

Not many players can say that to be honest. I don’t think any player at this club – maybe Mark Schwarzer or Eidur Gudjohnsen – have come close to playing in front of that many people. For me it was a great experience and I’d like to keep my international caps rolling. I've reached over 20 caps now and the Philippines is becoming a much stronger country in football and the stronger we can become as a country the more people will start to take notice of us.

What’s the scene with Philippine football like, is it fairly developed?

Two years ago there wasn’t much on the scene back home, but now I can safely say that they’re starting to bring Leagues into it. It's going to take time, like anything. The States did it and so did Australia and they’re now big leaders in football; they never used to be.

The Philippines has taken its time, we’ve got a lot of foreign based players which at the moment is the best thing for us, but in the future we hope to have some home grown players who can compete with the likes of the European based players.

I think we are 149th in the world and today world rankings do mean a lot, but then again it doesn’t mean too much. I’ve got world cup qualifiers in the off season; it’s Sri Lanka which we are quite confident about and if we beat them we’ve got Kuwait which won’t be an easy target: they beat Australia and then they did very well in the Asian Cup so we can only do our best with what is given to us.

How have you dealt with all of the travelling?

You get used to it to be honest. Obviously, I got my first international cap when I was 18 and it took me time to adapt, but I’ve got no complaints because Mark has to go a little bit further than me. I try to sleep as much as I can on the plane and the guys in the first team give you a bit of time to adapt, but you’ve got to get on with it really.

What are your aims and ambitions for next season?

I’m still going to be 3rd choice keeper but I’ll be pushing the other two as much as I can and I think the Club would be annoyed if I wasn’t. I will keep my head down, I will keep working hard and I will grab any opportunity with both hands as soon as it comes to me.

The Europa League handed David Stockdale some valuable First Team experience the season before last. Have you cast your eye towards making a mark in UEFA Europa League next season?

It's totally out of my hands! I can perform as much as I can out on the pitch, but it will all be determined on what the Manager thinks and what he thinks is right, so I’ll be keeping my head down and working hard.
