not watcvhed bsn this year, thats why i ask
galindo not on my list cuz i made the list out of my head, didnt made much research, after making the list, i started browsing through the stats and noticed galindo stats which are huge, specially rebounds, i think its time to get carmelo lee out of the nt.

balkman... its on manolo for balkman to be effective, with him on the court, we should try to be a defensive team, get out on the break, presses and traps, if we limit ourself to the halfcourt game, we will be with no shooter at the sf position. so if i was manolo, as 75% of puertorricans which i was, balkman would be my 5th frontcourt rotation player, cuz he can play the sf and pf, much like a combo guard, he could be puerto rico's combo forward. he will give hell to all of those euro teams thjat abuse us at the forward positions. can he help us? hell yeah! will people notice? nah, he would be another underappreciated piece of shit like rolando hourruitiner...

He was fired as coach of a team in the local league (BSN).

He still is the NT coach as the federation loves him.

The good news is that at least the Federation appears to no longer be corrupt, as was under the Dark Ages of Salvi Vilella. The player selection and general administration procedures of the NT have obscured the obvious shortcomings of our coach, which would have been more apparent under the previous administration.

PONCE - The Puerto Rican National Team General Manager, Agustín Díaz, sent a 40 player list for consideration for the upcoming tournaments this Summer to the new President of the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation, Carlos Beltran.

Puerto Rico will be participating in the 2010 Centrobasket Tournament (Dominican Republic), Central American and Caribbean Games (Mayagüez, Puerto Rico) and the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

Diaz said that the list was sent to the new president for consideration for the Central American and Caribbean Games. Also the coaches will be evaluating the players in the list for the other tournaments.

"The list will have changes and as time goes by it will have some cuts. We expect to have at least 25 players called for the official practices," said Diaz.

The list includes former national team players with experience in many tournaments and NCAA players.

The 40 players are: Guillermo Díaz, Jorge Bryan Díaz, Filiberto Rivera, Víctor Dávila, Carlos Arroyo Andrés Rodríguez, Christian Dalmau, Javier Mojica, Ángel Daniel Vassallo, Joel Jones Camacho, Carmelo Antrone Lee, Alex Galindo, Luis Villafañe, Angel "Buster" Figueroa, Daniel Santiago, Jesse Pellot, Peter John Ramos, David Huertas, Ricky Sánchez, David Cortés, Larry Ayuso, James Life, Luis Colón, Rick Apodaca, Angelo Reyes, Alphonse Dyer, José Juan Barea, Manuel De Jesús, Nathan Peavy, Ramón Clemente, Mike Rosario, Javier Mojica, Edwin Ubiles, Kevin Hamilton. Manuel Narváez, Dennis Clemente, Carlos Rivera, Paul Graham, Angel "Piwi" García and Richard Chaney.

It is expected that Beltran makes a decision on keeping Diaz as the GM of the team soon. Last Summer Diaz took control of the team and Puerto Rico won Silver in the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship earning a berth in the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
Puerto Rico NT also will play in New York in august 13 in a quadrangular vs France, China and USA....others preparation games in observation are in Germany(august 18-20), Argentina(august 7-8) and Spain.

PUR – Barea bides his time

DALLAS (2010 FIBA World Championship) – One Puerto Rican certain to have a prominent role at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey is Jose Barea.

The 25-year-old point guard is warming up for the event while playing for the Dallas Mavericks.

The way the snow has been falling in Texas this winter, though, it may be a stretch to say he’s warming up.

"In the four years that I’ve been here, this is the third time it has snowed,” he said, “but the first that so much snow has fallen.”

One advantage that basketball has over the hugely popular sport in the city, American football, is that NBA games are always played indoors.

Puerto Rico will play in Ankara later this year against FIBA Greece, China, Ivory Coast, Russia and FIBA World Championship hosts Turkey.

Injury prevented Barea from taking part in last year’s FIBA Americas Championship that was staged in San Juan.

The national team could have used him, too, as they fell to Brazil in a heart-stopping final, 61-60.

In Dallas, he doesn’t start and never knows how many minutes he is going to get.

He only played six minutes in Wednesday night’s 107-97 triumph over Phoenix.

“To come off the bench is a little bit difficult because you have to change mentality,” Barea said.

“At the beginning, I tried to do things fast and now I have to get accustomed to doing things with calmness," he said.

Barea wants to be a pivotal player with the Mavs and there are times when he is frustrated by watching.

"The season is long and not always will things come out well or badly,” he said.

“The important thing is to remain positive."

PUR – Santiago: ‘It's very important that mentally, we are prepared for Turkey’

ISTANBUL (2010 FIBA World Championship) – A lot of basketball players will set foot in Turkey for the very first time this year when the 2010 FIBA World Championship is staged in the country.

One star who will feel right at home, though, is Puerto Rico’s Daniel Santiago.

A veteran center who has played in the NBA and all over Europe, Santiago is now on the books of Efes Pilsen and resides in Istanbul.

He knows all about Turkey’s appetite for basketball.

Santiago will be hoping for a podium finish, as happened last year when Puerto Rico hosted the FIBA Americas Championship in San Juan and won the silver medal.

But no matter what happens, the 33-year-old will always treasure his national team experience.

"It's been a blessing for me,” he said to FIBA.com.

“It really helped jump-start my career, starting with the national team back in 1996. It doesn't seem that long ago.

“It's definitely been a blessing, helped me so much. I've been able to go to different places, to see the world, and to play the game of basketball in different countries.

“It's a great feeling. We bring so much joy to our island. People love basketball there and I'm just very thankful to be a part of that."

Santiago has helped Puerto Rico create some of international basketball’s most famous moments.

One was on the opening day of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, when the Puerto Ricans shocked a star-laden Team USA 92-73.

The 7ft 1in center played 25 minutes and had to go up against Tim Duncan.

Santiago ended up averaging 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds at the Olympics as Puerto Rico finished sixth.

Having played in many other competitions, he knows that Puerto Rico’s preparations will be crucial.

"The training, the physical conditioning, is very important because we play so many games in such a little space of time,” he said.

“It's very important that mentally, we are prepared for this.

"We have more players that are more experienced in this area. Even some of our younger guys have had some experience. If you are prepared mentally for this kind of tournament and realize how difficult it's going to be playing some games back to back against some very tough teams ... I think we are very prepared for this. It will be interesting to see.”

Puerto Rico will be in Ankara for Preliminary Round games against Greece, Ivory Coast, Russia, China and tournament hosts Turkey.

"I think it will be a very good group for us,” Santiago said.

“Obviously there are some tough teams, but I think we have a very good chance of going on to the next round.

“We just have to stay focused and I think our guys will be very excited to come to Ankara and play.”
