CARACAS (FIBA Americas Championship) – New Zeland, China, and Spain will be the official stops of a worldwide tour Venezuela’s National Team will be taking on their way to the FIBA Americas Championship 2007, which will be held from August 22 to September 2, in Las Vegas.
This was determined on an official meeting in which was present the top directives of the Venezuelan Basketball Federation: Jose Carmelo Cortez (President), Isnaldo Jimenez (Vice-president), Martha Aguilar (General Manager), and Gustavo Anselmo (Executive Director).
“Our Italian embassy made a great effort trying to set another game for us, but to no avail”, said Anselmo. “However, there is still chance for a game against Portugal, prior to Spain’s game.”
Venezuela will face teams from New Zeland, Angola, Slovenia, China, and a team integrated by All-Star players from the NBA Development League. As the main attraction of that trip, Venezuela will face the current World Champion, Spain. All those teams are above Venezuela in FIBA’s World Ranking.
The schedule shows that Nestor Salazar’s team will start their preparation process with a training session on June 25 (Monday) in Caracas. After that, on July 16, the team will pack their bags for a trip that will tale them through three continents, arriving back on August 9.

Argentina also rested its Pan Am Games players, released Matías Sandes due to injury and used two young sparrings to fill today's roster (Diez and Torres played, Schattmann and Alloatti didn't).
